Woman dies after car bursts into flames on Wellington motorway

The incident took place on Centennial Highway, southbound, under the Newlands Bridge over-ramp, about 4.45pm.
It is not yet clear how the incident or the fire began. Police said it was a single-vehicle crash.

Bishell said the pair were driving up the Ngauranga Gorge when they saw three cars pulled over on the side of the road.
As they drove past, she said she saw a man frantically running around the car to the driver’s side and a person, who they believed was a woman, getting out of the car “engulfed in flames”.
