Weve got pictures coming in from somerset and union county, scotch plains, berkeley heights, all along the route 22 and 78 corridor. Theyre dealing with this mess right now. A lot of roads closed. A lot of cars stuck in the water. A retaining wall collapsed, crushing several cars. Its still a mess out there. The good news is, we havent heard any reports of injuries bu t right now officials are trying to get a handle on things and get people to safe areas if they are in that zone right now. There are a lot of major roads those areas that we discussed that are closed. So even getting around is difficult right now. Union and s erset county is gone and just about over with now. Just a couple sprinkles. But see how it kind of sat over the same spot along route 78 for a couple of hours today, and thats why they saw the intense ooding. It didnt move very much attall. Then it started to move, and weaken. These storms left over right now will continue to weaken for the rest of this evening. Still seeing some pretty hea rain right now near white hnuse station and hope township. Also over portions of Ulster County seeing some moderate rain not as heavy as it was earlier. It is weakening, but were still in that flow. South to north. And we still have the tropical air. We still have the heat of the day. Notice how it kind of sits over e ci y around midday until the early afternoon. Finally starts to move out around 7 00 but then backs up again on saturday afternoon, and affects long island and coastal connecticut and new jersey. Not a good beach weekend. Todays high temperatures, the other story. We finally made it below 90 degrees. So the heatwave is over. But the humidity is still a big factor. So it feels miserable, still could see some heavy downpours. All the way into the weekend, actually. It will dry out a little bit more, though, on sunday. Friday could be even worse for some areas.
