And the center says there just wasnt enough money to keep it open anymore. It looks like moving day here at the yjcc in Washington Township. Members got an email last night saying the facility is shutting down effective immediately. It was very sad to hear. A lot of nice people here. All they did was give back. With ahaibrant preschool and programs for children and adults with special needs. Now all the programs will move elsewhere. Its a sad day. He says the yjcc is far more than a gym. It was the Jewish Community center in this area. And to lose it, youre losing part of your religion, too. In an email sent to members yesterday, the yjcc board said the center would be operating at a 1 million loss next year on top of the 15 million in renovations the aging facility needs. I think people became used to having it and forgot the fact they had to be part of it to make it to, you know, keep it alive. Members can use the facilities for the month of august until their memberships expire, though, many say they wont drive 10 to 20 miles to get there. Preschool students can atend in woodcliff lake. And the Jewish Federation is helping to relocate the special needs programs. And, of course, all the employees here at the yjcc will have to find new jobs. We have a professional music series. We have a lot of professional musicians. We have an art gallery. We have a theater group. Many of the events are free and open to the public, and the club rents out face for swedings and other special events. But everyone is having a hard time learning about the activities because when you go to the website, this is what you see. The last three weeks, our website went down. And north of the city, temperatures for the most part are in the mid and upper 70s. But already, clouds starting to increase across the area. All tied to this storm system right here. And this storm will stay south of us and move across the midatlanticic states. But the northern fringe of the storm system will bring central and southern new jersey a couple of rain showers overnight tonight and into parts of tomorrow. But by the weekend, all of this moves away, and were going to see improving weather as we do head into saturday and sunday. So if youre heading down the jersey shore this weekend on saturday, a mix of sun and clouds, a temperature of 81 degrees, a little bit cooler on sunday, though. Temperatures only in the 70s. Thats because the winds are coming in out of the northeast. And that is an onshore flow, bringing in some of that ocean air. Out towards the east end. Out towards south hampton. Tonight, were going to meet the carpenters chosen to build a special but humble chair for the who wouldve guessed that a chair fit for a pope would be made in a garage in port chester by immigrants and day laborers. Mexican immigrant hector rojas says its the biggest honor hes ever received. Heres what the chair will look like when its done. Next month, pope francis will sit in this very seat when he delivers a mass at Madison Square garden. Its more than a chair. Its the Spiritual Connection we have, you know, thats what i feel, what i think. Now, the first thing youll notice about this chair is theres no gold or elaborate designs, and thats intentional. The dramatic rescue and our interview with the father of one of the teens. The legionnaires outbreak rose. More cases and more fatalities. And missing for 35 years, the amazing discovery of a stolen violin worth millions. Good evening, im chuck scarborough. Disaster struck five teenagers boating in the Great South Bay. Their boat caught on fire and they had to jump into the water to escape those flames. News 4 reporter has the story of their rescue and an interview with one teens dad. Greg . Reporter well, chuck, this is a rescue story that began with a harrowing phone call between a father and son and ended with a simple iphone feature that helped save the five teens. Even in summer, the waters of Great South Bay are no place to be stuck at night. Theyre in the water. They do not have life jackets on. And they are blowing an air horn. Theyre in the shallow. Not going to lie the adrenalines flying and youre afraid. His fear exploded during a cell phone call to his eldest son who was out on the family boat. During that call, 19yearold cody noticed that the boats engine was smoking. He said, oh, no. Fire. And as soon as he said fire, i mean, i got excited, obviously. I said, just put on life jackets right away and get in the water. Thats exactly what cody, his younger brother and three other teens onboard did. They spent the next half hour in chest deep water. The dad advised them to abandon ship. Both a helicopter and Coast Guard Boat rushed to the scene. Initial concerns about finding the teens at night vanished when rescuers saw an iphone flashlight being waved from the water. Its not the first time ive seen that, but it definitely, you know, any little bit helps in that dark night. The teens were pulled to safety with no injuries. Firefighters put out the fire and cheered how the teens handled the situation. Theres no place really to go but you cant run away. Youve got to get in the water. Tom was glad this time, at least, his son listened to dad. He deserves credit. He was out there, he was the captain. You know. He did it. Reporter yeah, and one case, at least, dad did know best. Today mayor de blasio and cuomo announced new measures to combat this outbreak. The latest from the bronx. And the States Health commissioner says they are monitoring the outbreak. In fact, he along with the citys Health Commissioner took a tour of the neighborhood here today along with ruben diaz who pointed out those cooling towers believed to be responsible.
