First at 11 00, a man with a history of Mental Illness and a prior arrest opened fire if a louisiana Movie Theater last night killing two people and injuring several others. Tonight we are learning more about the gunmans past and how he got that weapon. This as many are struggling to come to grips with the surge in Mass Shootings in our country. Ashley coleman is live with new developments on this case and how this tragedy is impacting what is a very busy time for theaters around here. Ashley. Ashley it is the start of the weekend when folks are headed to the movies and families are telling us their hearts go out to the victims in louisiana, but theyre not letting what happened there shatter their sense of security. It was a terrifying scene inside this louisiana Movie Theater. Everyone was just running down the stairs freaking out, climbing over chairs and people and everyone was screaming. Ashley police say 59yearold John Russel Howser stood up and used a semiautomatic handgun. Were trying to put every single piece of that together to try to find a motive. Ashley howser took his time and was methodical during the rampage. Police say the gun used was bought legally at an alabama pawnshop last year. They say howser was a drifter with Mental Health issues. Inside his motel room near the theater, investigators found did i guys including glasses and wigs. Police believed howser had visited the theater more than once perhaps to see if it could be a target. The two women who died are 21yearold mayci breaux seen here on her Facebook Page and jillian jackson, a 33yearold mother pictures here on instagram. Back in the d. C. Area, families arent letting fear stop them from going to the movies this weekend. Normally i feel safe but you hate when Something Like this happens. Its unclear who has custody of him right now because both of his parents are in big trouble with the law. The childs parents, Olivia Hernandez and christopher hilliard, both 23 years old are facing charges of felony child neglect. Investigators say on july 16 their 4yearold son was rushed to the Stafford Hospital after suffering a seizure. While being treated he tested positive for drugs in his bloodstream. Detectives found enough evidence to charge the parents. Hernandez, the childs mother was on the run until late friday but hilliard shall the father, turned himself in earlier this week. Authorities said he was already wanted on probation violation. He was sentenced or drug charges last year and arrested in april and june for drug possession. He is being held at the regional jail. Now investigators tonight are not saying what evidence they found or where they found it. Theyre also not saying how they believe those drugs made their way into that little boys system. Police made seven more arrests overnight. They were made in and around the trinidad neighborhood in northeast. That makes a total of 57 arrests since this effort started. Some of this activity happening in the park right over there and now this new aggressive approach is a crack down going after the johns, the customers. This is certainly considered an up and coming neighborhood. The bird flu has ravaged poultry in the rest of the country with a spike in egg prices. Maryland officials ordered a quarantine on outofstate poultry and they have banned live displays of poultry at fairs starting august 25. Migratory ducks are expected to bring the bird flu to maryland this fall. There is not a lot i can do about a bird that is flying over and brings thatthrough to me.
