Brooklyn reporter yes, shes the swimsuit supermodel and actress turned Special Olympics global ambassador. Advocating to improve the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. Were going to show everyone. Reporter its all because of this woman. Her aunt tara. Its just a cause near and dear to my heart. Ive seen it make a change in her life. How so. Often people with intellectual disabilities dont have something to go to. She doesnt have a community of friends and she doesnt have hobbies to do on her own and Special Olympics provides that for her and athletes like that. Was that your date . What do you think about that one . Let me get to know her through you. So my aunt tara she was born without her corporation clossum which connects the right and left hem sfeerss of shemispeers of her brain. Its like a 9yearold who is the most freespirited 9yearold you could ever know. Tara was 13 years old when brooklyn was born. Mentally and emotionally they were on the same page for several years, more like siblings than aunt and niece. I remember wed steal dolls from each other, very young, you know, and i think it started changing when i was 6 or 7 and realizing im growing out of certain things and im coloring differently than tara is. And how has she helped you. I feel like when people are exposed to anyone any sort of disability theres just an awareness they wouldnt otherwise have so tara taught me that at a very young age. What they Learn Together were the effects of her words. Come help me. I remember tara saying mom, am i tarded . Thats how she called it. No tara youre smart. Like this. You know it was like whoa shes hearing this from somewhere and that that gets you at the heart. Nice tara. Reporter at age 40 tara enjoys a full and active life. Shes even found her Perfect Match with brooklyns husband tennis pro andy roddick. I think she worships my husband and loves him more than me which is very frustrating because we grew up together and i think she would choose andy over me any day of the week. Tell me about maureen. Well yeah we kind of came from the mean streets of hells kitchen. Grew up together going through the foster care system and really have known each other since we were kids so weve always had each others back and best friends but also you know i sort of feel like maureen is the front line for billy in a sport that can be really brutal and not always you know not everyone has his best interests in mind so i think i think of her as the front line for him and shes so fiercely protective of her family and making sure that he gets in and out alive without too many of the wrong kinds of punches. Yeah and its just when youre watching it its so real. Its so authentic, a testament to you and jake and all the other actors in the film but how did you turn into maureen, the tough streets of hells kitchen. Right. Do you know much about the boxing world. I didnt when i started out which was part of the draw to this. So i sort of talked to some families of boxers and spent a little time in the ring myself. Really. Trying to you know just get a feel for it. Just how physically grueling it is and just to understand a little what jake himself was going through because he was really you know putting himself through it every day and training twice a day. What was it like watching him get hit you were filming those scenes they were real. Right. Yeah, yeah it was well, it was interesting because i had to play this woman that has been watching her husband get hit for 20 years, you know but i for me rachel was all brand new so i remember being in the front row with 50 and, you know jakes team and jake got actually hit in the face and we all went ooh and i was like no thats not what my character would do. Has to be cool and tough. Its like whatever. The other beautiful, beautiful part of this story is Euna Lawrence and the ree relationship the three of you. Shes just such a special, special person. Shes just wise beyond her years and, you know has such an emotional wisdom and she killed me in this film. I knew it was coming and she brought me to tears i think about four times. You all brought me to tears multiple times during the movie. I want to go throwback thursday. Woo he like to do that here and on social media as well you recently reunited with the cast of mean girls. I told my daughter im interviewing Rachel Mcadams. The notebook. Shes like mean girls. What was it like to have the plastics altogether. It was great. It was really fun. It was too short.
