With council preparing for another mask vote, here's how the mandate got started
On Tuesday evening, the Sioux Falls City Council will once again consider an ordinance that would extend the city's mask mandate, in place since Nov. 21.
But unlike previous ordinances, which set a date for the mandate's expiration, the proposal in question would see the mask mandate end once the state moves on to its next phase of vaccinations.
If passed, it could potentially be the final council action on a months-long issue that has brought hours of heated argument from both councilors and the public.
Councilor Curt Soehl first talked about proposing a mask mandate in late October, as hospitalizations from COVID-19 crossed 150 and case counts neared 4,000.
