Wilhelm: Three street names unchanged despite controversy
Roy Wilhelm
A couple of decades ago, I wrote a little about a controversy involving the street with three names: Dickinson, Wilson and Cleveland.
The Dickinson portion of the street, named for Rodolphus Dickinson who served in congress and was a community leader in Lower Sandusky (now Fremont) and Ohio, was not part of the controversy.
The disagreement involved Wilson and Cleveland avenues. Grover Cleveland, of course, was the only person ever to serve two separate terms as president of the United States. He was the 22nd president, from 1885-1889, and the 24th president, from 1893-1897.
