Sunderland fell to a 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Lads made a dominant start to proceedings and their positivity was rewarded shortly after the half-hour mark, as Charlie Wyke blasted home his 28th goal of the campaign.
Wigan struck back, though, and they levelled before the half-time whistle through Will Keaneâs well-taken finish, ensuring it remained level after the first 45.
Leam Richardsonâs side led before the hour mark, Callum Lang bundling the ball home after Viv Solomon-Otabor retrieved possession inside the box.
Changes followed and the Black Cats battled into the final seconds, but Wigan secured the points in Lancashire.
