Today was a historic day not only because President Joe Biden was named the 46th President of The United States, but because Kamala Harris is the FIRST woman Vice President and the FIRST of Black and Indian decent.
And she chose her outfit to make a statement, wearing a custom designed outfit from a Black-American designer by the name of Christopher John Rodgers.
The royal purple color chosen to be worn was to represent Shirley Chisholm.
CNN's Abby Phillip pointed out during Inauguration Day coverage Wednesday that Harris used purple and yellow as colors to launch her presidential campaign — a nod to Shirley Chisholm, who became the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress. Chisholm would later run for president in 1972. Phillip noted that Chisholm's boundary-breaking trajectory in politics "inspired" Harris' career.
