Why experts believe a housing crisis could be on the horizon

(WBNG) -- Despite the many programs designed to help, housing experts believe the Southern Tier and beyond could be heading toward a crisis.
Community groups like 211 and the Binghamton Housing Authority told 12 News Wednesday they expect the number of people who are homeless to skyrocket later this summer, early this fall.
The New York eviction moratorium expires at the end of August.
While the program was created to avoid putting people on the street, advocates say by delaying rent payments until all at once, the moratorium may have created the very thing it was intended to avoid.
