The meeting took place after the visit of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to WHO. WHO Director-General Assistant, Dr. Mariangela Simao, on behalf of the Director-General of WHO, welcomed the Vietnamese delegation to the WHO headquarters and stated that WHO highly appreciates the Vietnamese Government’s cooperation in the field of health and innovation promotion, especially from young people like the inventors of Vihelm helmets, in finding new solutions to protect the health of people, especially in the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic.WHO also welcomes the intention of the Vihelm helmets inventor group to apply to participate in the COVID-19 Technology Access Pool (C-TAP) - an initiative proposed by Costa Rica and WHO and currently coordinated by this organization.The goal of C-TAP is through the open sharing of technological know-how and patents to ensure timely and equitable access to COVID-19 prevention tools and products.Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said that Vietnam welcomes WHO's C-TAP initiative to strengthen international solidarity to effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.He said that so far, many innovative ideas have been developed and applied in Vietnam, including Vihelm, an air purification device that helps protect the respiratory system. The creators proposed the use of the device instead of traditional quarantine.The C-TAP will promote science and technology initiatives in the prevention and control of COVID-19, and honor the global solidarity of the countries participating in the Solidarity Call to Action to attract inventors and technology companies to contribute research to join hands in efforts to respond to the global COVID-19 pandemic./.
