KENTWOOD — Fully vaccinated employees are allowed to return to work without masks, as long as their employers allow it, thanks to newly-updated workplace rules which went into effect Monday.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the new COVID-19 emergency rules from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration at the headquarters of office furniture company Steelcase near Grand Rapids on Monday, May 24.
The new rules are the lone byproduct of the governor's "MI Vacc to Normal" plan, which tied Michigan's reopening to vaccination coverage.
The plan has essentially been abandoned since updated guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention allows for more lenient coronavirus restrictions, even as the state's vaccination rollout has slowed in recent weeks.
