White House presses Russia to release Texan Trevor Reed, calls former Marine’s case a ‘mockery of justice’
The Fort Worth native is in prison for attacking police despite evidence showing otherwise.
A former US Marine and University of North Texas student, Trevor Reed at his sentencing hearing July 30, 2020, at Moscow's Golovinsky District Court. The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 9 years in a prison colony. Reed, who arrived in Russia on a tourist visa, was arrested Aug. 16, 2019 after neighbors complained about a drunk man arguing with women. Authorities say he attacked officers as they took him to the police station, which he denies. U.S. officials and Reed's family and lawyer say the charges are baseless.(Vyacheslav Prokofyev / Vyacheslav Prokofyev/TASS)
