A bitter cold snap has resulted in a stunning snowfall 500km north of Sydney in the past 24 hours - with weekend rain predicted across most parts of the nation.
Residents in Guyra, between Armidale and Glen Innes in the Northern Tablelands of NSW, woke up to the unusual sight of falling snow on Thursday morning.
One shocked local uploaded a video to Instagram showing her child surrounded by white powder, with her daughter loving the unexpected snowfall on a local sporting field.
There were similar scenes at Eukey Town Hall, south of Stanthorpe in southern Queensland on Wednesday, as snow and sleet fell for the first time in two years.
