Where to eat in downtown Portsmouth: New picnic tables are a hit

PORTSMOUTH — There are 10 new metal accessible picnic tables located in and around Market Square for the public to enjoy.
Stephanie Seacord, the city’s public information officer, said Department of Public Works employees assembled the picnic tables and put them out Wednesday.
The idea for the initiative came out of the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Committee to Reopen Portsmouth 2021.
“The idea was discussed ... in terms of how do we get people to stay downtown? How do we encourage people to get takeout and then have a place to eat it?” she said Thursday. “It’s an ongoing conversation about Portsmouth being a winter city, a winter destination.”
