A felon from Arizona was arrested in Anderson with a loaded gun on Monday. Anderson police stopped the suspect, Ernesto Garcia, on Interstate 5 for speeding in a construction zone. Officers said they learned Garcia was a convicted felon, had a loaded gun with a threaded barrel which is considered an assault weapon, and found meth all during the traffic stop. Garcia was booked on drug and weapons charges.
A new climate study is shedding light on just how dry this summer will be. A recent UCLA study calculated the soil in the west, saying it is the driest it has been since 1895 – 125 years ago. Researchers said this is because of the lack of rain. Scientists and fire chiefs are now working together, asking Californians to keep defensible space around their homes, and take evacuation alerts seriously.
