Chrissie Williams believes tui will live in the residential red zone within five years.
The native bird disappeared from Christchurch in the 1960s and 70s, but was reintroduced to Banks Peninsula in the last decade.
“A couple of tui have come over the hill from the Banks Peninsula already,’’ Williams said.
“They are in Governors Bay, Mt Pleasant and Huntsbury. It won’t take much to bring them across. I think we will have tui in the area within five years.”
