OFFICERS WILL BE WORKING 12-HOURS SHIFTS, AS THE DEPARTMENT PREPARES FOR POTENTIAL PROTESTS DOWNTOWN. >> SO NOW OVER THE NEX WEEK, IT SEEMS LIKE AT LEAST SOME PEOPLE’S INTENTION IS TO TURN IT UP SEVERAL NOTCHES, TO BE MORE LIKE WHAT D.C. WAS. EMILY: THAT THIS IS NOT THE DEPARTMENT’S FIRST TIME DEALING WITH UNREST IN THE CAPITAL CITY. >> LEE UNFORTUNATELY, GOT A LOT , OF EXPERIENCE WITH THESE GROUPS. EMILY: EVERY WEEKEND FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS, THE CHIEF SAYS TWO DUELING GROUPS HAVE BEEN FIGHTING DOWNTOWN, NO LONGER PEACEFULLY PROTESTING, BUT TURNING TO VIOLENCE. >> THEN WE HAVE THESE GROUPS LIKE ANTIFA AND PROUD BOYS, THAT SEEMS TO BE THEIR ONLY MISSION. NOT ONLY BY WHAT WE SEE DO WE KNOW THAT, BUT THEY BRAG ABO IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA. EMILY: THE CHIEF SAYS THE DEPARTMENT IS COORDINATING WITH STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES, INCLUDING THE FBI. HE SAYS DEALING WITH THESE GROUPS CAN BE DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS. >> THESE FOLKS ARE DRESSED LIKE THEY ARE IN A MILITARY OR SWAT OFFICERS -- THEY ARE WEARING BALLISTIC HELMETS, THEYRE WAERING BULLET PROOF VESTS, THEY ARE CARRYING SWORDS STICKS, , ROCKS, CANNED FOODS AND THEYRE USING ALL THIS EQUIPMENT AGAINST EACH OTHER AND AGAINST THE OFFICERS >> THIS IS A SERIOUS SITUATION.
