OK, so not everyone agrees that the COVID-19 screening protocols at Nashville North have been smooth sailing, but by most accounts it has gone as well as can be expected. Thousands are still lining up for the chance to embrace the unique Stampede experience of the country music tent, even if lineups were initially slow due to patrons being required to show proof of vaccinations or undergo rapid testing. Still, if these restrictions were meant to result in a toned-down, mellowed experience, no one told the programmers. As in years past, Nashville North is nothing if not consistent, offering a slate of mainstream country acts that should get the alcohol flowing and feet moving. On Wednesday, that includes a 9 p.m. performance by the James Barker Band, a four-piece outfit from small-town Ontario making waves in Nashville. On Thursday, B.C.-based rising star JoJo Mason (nominated for the CCMA Rising Star award not once but twice) will take the stage. This soul-country singer’s latest EP, Changes, came out in 2020.
