What to do if you suspect discrimination in home appraisals

Discrimination based on race, class, color, disability, religion, national origin and familial status at any step of the mortgage lending process is illegal under the federal Fair Housing Act.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says discrimination can take place in any form — from refusal to provide information on loans, refusal to make a loan, imposing different terms or conditions to discriminating in appraising property.
