ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — There's a problem with the New York State Lottery. People are winning games like Take 5 and Cash4Life but they're not getting paid.
The state gaming commission wouldn't communicate with me Monday, but one state lawmaker who oversees gaming did. Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow (D, 89) said the lottery told him it is not a hack, but a glitch in the software where they can't verify numbers. So, out of caution, the lottery is sitting on the winnings.
That is affecting lottery winners like Mark Barton and his brother. Barton's brother won $2,500 in a lottery last week. They signed up to book an appointment to collect and then they were told it wouldn't happen.
