Indian Point, a nuclear power plant just south of Peekskill and about 35 miles north of Times Square, officially closed on April 30. This week, key stakeholders came to an agreement about how to begin the decommissioning process of the plant.
On May 19, the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) approved the sale and transfer of Indian Point to the New Jersey-based Holtec International to lead this process. The move was criticized by environmental groups like Riverkeeper, a clean-water advocate, who question Holtec's experience decommissioning nuclear power plants and spent fuel management.
