The Residential Tenancies Act stipulates that a “tenant only has to leave the premises in a reasonably clean and tidy condition”, though what is reasonably clean and tidy can be subjective.
There was no way we would have meet our property manager’s expectations with that clean.
Our cleaning list from the property manager included the requirement that all windows, windowsills and frames needed to be cleaned.
Floors and skirting boards, fridges, ovens and fireplaces also needed to be spotless and, according to our cleaning list, particular attention needed to be paid to the bathroom.
The end of tenancy cleaning list from Ray White is even more prescriptive, with expectations that departing tenants will clean and polish sink taps, for example.
