In a long-winded, turgid item, the report railed against Jews for running a “hidden empire” and possessing a “plan for a world takeover”. Loyal and right-thinking British readers of the Independent, the newspaper founded in the 1980s as a safe haven for liberal, independent thinking, were thankfully spared the diatribe.
