WEYMOUTH — When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit, Vytas Makstutis said he didn’t know what to expect as a small business owner who has spent more than a decade perfecting his craft.
But as it turned out, Makstutis’ “open-and-go” orange liqueur margarita, mixed in his Weymouth distillery, would thrive at a time when people were stuck at home and unable to dine and drink out.
With Rustic Spirits, margarita lovers only need a lime and a salt-rimmed glass to get a bartender-approved beverage at home.
“This industry is so competitive and big corporations literally buy the shelf space, but I’ve continued to grow somewhat organically,” Makstutis, 40, of Weymouth said. “The pandemic was a helpful impact. It’s been very sad, but helpful for my business.”
