A Gold Coast man who collected native frogs in his backyard and then sold them online has been fined after he mailed them to pet shops across south-east Queensland.
Queensland's Environment Department fined the man $4,401 after his illegal enterprise was discovered by sharp-eyed Australia Post workers, who had noticed some of the packages were damp, slimy and 'croaking'.
The man from Gaven had collected more than a hundred frogs, mostly tiny Graceful tree frogs, and advertised them at up to $100 each on Gumtree.
The tiny Graceful tree frog is native to eastern Queensland and north-eastern NSW
