Ecuador has exploded, violently and gruesomely. Last week, narco-gangsters kidnapped dozens of police and prison officers. A posse burst into one of the main television stations and held the presenters at gunpoint live on air. Daniel Noboa, the 36-year-old president, has declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew. The internet is awash with macabre videos, some of sicarios torturing cops, some of soldiers abusing captured gang members.
