A search is under way for his son.
They were lost in heavy fog on Tuesday.
A fisherman has died in Doringbaai on the West Coast and a search is under way for his son.
The father and son were last seen fishing on Tuesday before heavy mist covered the area, according to National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Lamberts Bay station commander Avril Mocke.
The crew received a call at around 17:30 on Tuesday and were informed that the father and his son had gone missing in the dense fog, which forced fishing boats to return to shore.
"The father and his son, who had been seen fishing at the time in the area, had failed to return. It appears that they had no cellphone or GPS onboard and NSRI Lamberts Bay and the SA Police Service initiated investigations to try to determine a search area," Mocke said.
