WELLSVILLE — The Village of Wellsville is preparing for a major bridge replacement project set for this summer.
The arched Madison Street bridge over the Western NY & Pennsylvania Railroad will be torn down and replaced during the construction season. Allegany County first approved design work for the new bridge in 2018 and the project is coming to fruition this year.
Village DPW Superintendent Bill Whitfield said the county is expected to award the bid for construction work this spring in March or April. The county has estimated the project will cost just over $2.5 million.
"Sometime this summer Madison Street will close and remain closed until the project is completed," said Whitfield, who estimated the project will take 12-18 months. "They have a considerable amount of work to do there."
