IN 1984 President Reagan won a second presidential term in the US, Margaret Thatcher won a landslide election victory, York Minster suffered a serious fire and Marion Archer became a trustee of East Harlsey Village Hall.
This week the current trustees marked Marion’s retirement by presenting her with a tree for her garden. During her time on the committee she has served as secretary, treasurer and chairman and always had the interests of the hall and the community at heart. Apart from a short break around the turn of the century, her service has been continuous.
Current chairman, Richard Martin said: “Marion has been at the centre of most of the improvements that have happened in the hall over the years. Her talent for attracting grants has meant that she was involved in planning and developing a play area for the village and helping with the refurbishment of the interior of the hall."
