THE ERUPTION OF LA SOUFRIERE Volcano IN ST. VINCENT continues to generate ash plumes which mid to upper winds are pushing over Barbados. This is expected to continue over the next 24 hours.
The concern for Dominica is that when this ash sinks, it may be transported westward by the low-level wind flow towards our area within the next 48 hours.
A VOLCANIC ASH AND SMALL-CRAFT WARNING MAY BE REQUIRED FOR DOMINICA IF CONDITIONS WARRANT.
A Small-Craft Warning is issued in this case as reduced visibility is affecting or expected to affect the marine area.
Ashfall together with Saharan dust haze may cause a significant reduction in visibility and respiratory problems and people can experience difficulty breathing. Wearing of mask is critical.
