So Sydney children are expected to learn from home for another two weeks as the city tries to contain the latest outbreak of COVID-19. The government must recognise that this decision imposes a significant burden on children and young people, almost exclusively to benefit other age groups in society.
As a parent, paediatrician and infectious disease physician, I have been struck by the way in which the learning and wellbeing of children (especially young children) appears to have been consistently deprioritised in this debate. This must stop.
