WCSD offering hiring bonuses for bus drivers as routes threatened for thousands of students

Washoe County School District elementary school students board the bus outside of the Aspen Ridge Apartments in south Reno. Under a proposal these Caughlin Ranch Elementary School children will be zoned for a different school.
The Washoe County School District will offer $2,000 hiring and retention bonuses to school bus drivers in the wake of a critical shortage ahead of summer school and the 2021-22 school year.
A returning driver could make as much as $3,000 in bonuses for returning to the job and referring someone who is hired.
