Reporter dawning a hospital gown, saying nothing, suzan grossmankerner headed to court where holding her head and rocking, the 56yearold faced charges of killing her mother with a kitchen knife. An argument ensued over the daughters ongoing medical conditions. The daughter enraged, ultimate ly stabbed her mother to death. Reporter grossmankerner summoned police to the home of her mother, urma grossman, midday monday. Inside Court Documents Reveal Police found her covered in blood, administering aid to her dying mother. With stab wounds to her back and neck, the elderly grossman told police her daughter did it. She said the two were fighting over the daughters bipolar medication and she confess today the crime. If the accusations are true, that you stabbed your mother, one could imagine theres a serious Mental Illness involved in this. Reporter the mother has battled Mental Health issues for years and is herself an attorney. She has a Mental Illness. Reporter stun ned neighbors say the daughter visited often and loved her grandmother as did the grandchildren. Now the grandchildren have lost a mother and a grandmother, which from what i could see were very close with. A judge ordered susan suzan grossmankerner without bail. In oceanside, long island, Carolyn Gusoff, cbs 2 news. Police say they dont have any record of previous domestic problem. A transit bus went out of control this morning and slammed in to a car lot injuring seven people. The smashed cars were towed from the hyundai dealership in jersey city. A witness says the bus swerved out of the way of another vehicle then jumped the curb and careened in to the lot. I heard a pop and then i saw the bus come and mow through these three cars, hit a light pole. About 20 passengers were on the bus. Most of the injuries are not serious. Police are searching for the man behind a vicious attack in brooklyn. Investigators say the man threatened to shoot a 52yearold woman if she did not follow him to the back stairwell of a building on lefferts place. Thats where police say he forced his fingers down her throat, knocked out two teeth and raped her. Neighbors say its a hotbed of suspicious activity. Drugs, prostitution. Theyre doing it over there. Weve been com plaining to the owner of the building to do something. Tonight police are asking for the publics help to find this suspect. Investigators say he may have bite marks on his body. Commuters are jamming themselves in to trains. Today we learned the feds are looking in to whether the crowding is a safety hazard. Cbs 2s meg baker has been looking in to this. She joins us from penn station with more. Federal Railroad Administration officials met with the Long Island Railroad today. A preliminary meeting to discuss safety concerns and solutions to overcrowding. They say the Long Island Railroad will take those options in to consideration. Now a look at what some commuters have experienced. Reporter forced to sit on suitcases or even in the middle of the aisles, blocking stairs and emergency exits. Very crowded. No seats. Bumping in to each other. Rudeness. Its all right. Got to do what i got to do. Reporter we lurnld today that the regional safety manager for the federal Railroad Association met with the bp operations for the Long Island Railroad to discuss these complaints. Safety concerns related to overcrowding. They visited five stops along the lirr. In a statement the agency says the meeting was to discuss solutions of the problem of overcrowding, which can be a concern as it reelths to the ability of people to move from one car to the next in the event of an emergency. I rode the Long Island Railroad where dozens of people were jam packed in to cars. People cant pass. And in an evacuation situation it would be unsafe. Reporter the friday 4 p. M. Canon ball express train consists of three train cars. That leaves 1,046 seats in the unreserved section. According to the lirr on friday, august 7th there were 1540 customers onboard. If you do the math, thats 494 people left standing. Divided between nine cars is about 55 extra people in each car. These riders want more service, requesting that additional cars be added to popular transit times. Its a disaster really. People are pushing, shoving. Its not a comfortable experience. I have no idea why theyre allowed to over sell the train like they are. The Long Island Railroad says more cars cannot be added because platforms are not long enough. A second prominent democrat will vote against the iran nuclear deal. Senator Robert Menendez announced his decision today complete with a comprehensive speech spelling out the reasons why. Jessica schnedier is here with more. Senator menendez joins new york senator Chuck Schumer in his pledge to vote down the deal. Menendez spoke for 45 minutes at Seton Hall University today stressing that this isnt about politics, its about potentially Game Changing policy. Reporter it is another blow in president obamas campaign to gain support for the iran nuclear agreement. Prominent democrat menendez listed point by point the reasons he will not support the deal. I am deeply concerned this is a significant shift in our nonproliferation policy and what it will mean in terms of a potential arms race in an already dangerous region. Reporter menendez is the second democrat to break ranks with the president. Chuck schumer announced his disagreement two weeks ago. Youve got to study it closely, come up with a conclusion. We have a rollback of sanctions and iran only limiting its capability but not dismantling or rolling it back. Reporter secretary of state john kerry has joined other world powers for months of talks with iran. It would curb the program in exchange for millions of dollars in relief in sanctions. Menendez says it doesnt go far enough. Not even one centrifuge will be destroyed under this agreement. This grants permanent sanctions relief in exchange for only temporary limitations on its nuclear program. The congressional vote on the deal happens in september. New york senator Kirsten Gillibrand has already expressed her support along with chris murphy. Senator Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell has already said the votes are not aligning to vote the deal down despite menendez and schumer speaking out against it. New york city is taking action to prevent future legionnaires outbreaks. A bill was signed regulating new cooling towers. Under the law all building owners must register cooling towers and have them tested and inspected every 90 days. The towers are believed to be the source of the outbreak in the south bronx last month that killed 12 people and sent more than 100 others to the hospital. John escaped with his possessions in his truck. The wildfires destroyed parkers home and three dozen others. Its nearly 100 western wildfires. In california crews are mopping up a 300 acre fire in the angelus national forest. Cooler temperatures are helping firefighters get an upper hand on the fire burning here in castaic but theyre worried winds could cause flareups. With so many fires burning, 200 active duty soldiers are expected to join firefighters on the front lines in several states sunday. Entire countries, fire program and organization has been taxed heavily for about the last three and a half to four weeks. Reporter a fast moving wildfire north of San Luis Obispo has devoured 2,000 acres and threatened hundreds of homes. Two separate shark sightings at new york city beaches have swimmers worried about what is in the water. Cbs 2s elise finch reports on what you need to know if you come face to face with a shark. Reporter sunny skies and soaring temps mean beach conditions are perfect for a swim but recent shark sightings are making some beachgoers nervous. I like dont feel safe. Im very nervous going in to the water. Reporter on monday this shark was spotted and reeled in by pisher men near far rockaway. On the same day a 100pound 7foot hammer head shark was spotted. Most sharks found in this area arent much of a threat to humans. Overall the risk sharks pose is very low. The hammer heads ive always found to be actually not as threatening as they look. Reporter experts say as our waterways become cleaner well see more and more marine life, some closer to our beaches. Wonderful. I think its great that the marine life is propagating, making babies. Its a good thing there are sharks but bad because its not safe. Reporter some confident swimmers say they feel confident because theyd never approach a shark. I read a book that said they eat early in the morning or late at night. They fear us, we fear them, we keep distance. Reporter never enter the water if you spot a shark. If you encounter one, get away from as you move away. The experts also say if youre being attacked, hit them in sensitive areas like the eyes, the nose, or the gills until they release you or just dont go in the water. Thats a good idea. [ laughter ] if you think its tough for humans, well, the seals have it a lot worse. Youve probably never seen a shark. Watch how this great white shark goes off the attack on the coast of cape cod. The shark was relentless, jumping out of the water trying to gain a seal. The seal was able to get away. A biologist captured it all on video. They also tagged two 12foot sharks. Turns out that a mother with a number of children in the car was pulling out from a multifamily home in 230 drake avenue here on the Long Island Sound side of new rochelle when she put the car in reverse instead of drive and backed over two of her there was a 12yearold girl and 10yearold boy, a passenger of injured. Im told they were breathing when they were taken away but badly injured and the police are on the scene right now looking it over. This looks like it was an accident. This rusted shipwrecked sailboat has been sitting here since hurricane sandy. Its vincent and camilles daily reminder of the night the storm gutted their home. It went in to my neighbors house, wrecked her windows, doors. We get a storm, which way is that mass going to come . Whos going to be responsible if it makes a lot of damage . Reporter he says hes tried everything to get rid of the sailboat, starting with tracking down the original owner. Hes told us, if we continue to bother him, hes going to sue us. He said he went to court and settled by paying the cost of court fees but never paid a fine for the boat. No Government Agency seems willing to help and oddly enough its the only boat left of about 100 ship wrecked during the storm, all removed by the army corps of engineers within months. A spokesperson says because the boat is up against a dock and near the shoreline and not in federal navigational channels it is up to the owner of the boat to remove it. A day after a tennessee tourist was arrested for taking a selfie on the Brooklyn Bridge, the nypd says it is assessing the security of the citys bridges. 21yearold david carnauch was arrested at his home in chattanooga. Hes been charged with reckless endangerment. There have been several trespassing incidents over the Brooklyn Bridge in the past year and police say theyre now taking action. Its something were looking at, the security of all the bridges throughout the safe. Carnauch said nobody tried to stop him from climbing the bridge and he didnt know it was forbidden. Two female soldiers will for the first time the women have earned the ranger tab and graduate friday from the u. S. Armys elite Ranger School. Reporter 19 women started the army ranger cores but only two made it all the way through the phases of the grueling 62day training program. The army isnt releasing their names just yet but were told both are west point graduates. The two women and 94 men made it through the woodland and fort benning, mountainous terrain and coastal swamp in florida. Reporter according to the army, Ranger School is the premier leadership course, pushing them to their limits. Carrying their rough sack which is pretty heavy, running missions, learning how to do patrolling in different types of environments. None of that is aided by the fact that the students probably average between two and four hours of sleep a night. Reporter men and women were all held to the same standards. In fact its hard to tell them apart in video and pictures. In a statement Army Secretary john mchugh said, quote, this course has proven that every soldier, regardless of gender, can achieve his or her full potential. We owe soldiers the opportunity to serve successfully in any position where they are qualified and capable and we continue to look for ways to select, train, and retain the best soldiers to meet our nations needs. But unlike the 94 men graduating and though theyll also get their ranger tab, the two women will not be allowed to serve in the elite ranger units. For those women who are able to complete the course, it will probably help them in some ways in their careers. Accepting women in to Ranger School is part of the armys experiment to determine if women could withstand the physical demands of infantry. The pentagon is not expected to make decisions on what will be allowed until later this year. Congratulations to them. Certainly trail blazing. Graduation ceremonies friday. Although weve dropped off it because were below 90. I dont think well be finding the 90degree mark for the next few days. Let me show you what we had for high temps. Weather watchers reporting plenty of 90s out there. Bloomingdale, new jersey with two commas. New york city, you hit 90 degrees on the nose. You had it for about 15 minutes a quarter after 1 00 this afternoon. Right now youre 84, pretty comfortable out there. Sunny sky overhead. Heres what you should be expecting as you look ahead to the next few days. Hot and humid for the rest of the week. I dont believe were going to be finding 90 but doesnt mean its not going to be hot and humid. Its going to be unsettled every day because of the combination of the heat and humid. The worst of it is going to be late thursday going in to the first part of your day on friday and what we mean by the worst of it, heavy rain is possible. National Weather Service put out a special Weather Statement today in regards to thursday night going in to friday morning. Could be flooding out there and well watch it for you. As of right now the showers that weve had and the storms as well. You see all the lightning fading away as everything pushed away to the north and losing its punch. This is all because the sun angle. You need to have a source of energy for a storm. Something that creates lift. The sun is getting lower so its not energizing the atmosphere. Its all fading away. Bigger picture is going to show you whats at plate. Another line of storms around washington, d. C. I dont believe theyre going to hold themselves together. Is there a chance to see any rain in here tonight . Yeah, less than 20 . Its a slight chance. Then you look at the big picture. This is what the national Weather Service is referring to when theyre talking about late thursday in to friday. This is not a typical summer pattern. This is an actual weather system. Low pressure here, associated cold front is forecast to push in to our area later thursday in to early friday. I think friday will probably end up being the worst looking day. Spotty for some folks. Same thing tomorrow. Its going to be spotty out there. Temperatures tomorrow, a couple degrees cooler than they were today. Today is a couple degrees cooler than it was yesterday. Tonight, humid with a stray shower still left over. Take a look at your day tomorrow. High temperature, 86 degrees. Warm and sticky still. Popup storm inland and look across the board. Remember we are talking about thursday in to friday as the wet weather period around here. Everything else is sort of popup variety storms. More organized thursday in to friday. Thursday, 84. Friday, 82. As you get in to the weekend, you can see a little bit more of that cloud cover stretch in to saturday, possibly a little bit of rain stretching in to saturday. And then it should be improving as you get in to the latter portion of saturday in to sunday. 82 on sunday. Cooler temps out there. We got it, huh . Fourth day of the heat wave. Shes still rubbing it in. Im just saying were still on the streak. Just reminding you. A Seattle Police officer who pulled over a car for speeding and blasting through red lights got a real surprise. Inside was a woman about to give birth. When he called for help, other officers arrived before the ambulance. The babys coming out. The babys head is out. The officers dash cam captured the back seat birth. This happened sunday morning. Police say officer Anthony Reynolds who pulled the mother and father over helped bring that little baby in to the world. Little girl. There was a moment when she struggled to breathe but the mom told officer reynolds to clear her airway. The grateful dad hugged everyone jauvld the family is doing just fine. I imagine he showed up with his ticket book and was like, wait a minute. Up next, getting rid of plus sizes in stores. One famous comedian says the label is no laughing matter. Why shes calling for change. Then at 6 00, massive lines outside the department of motor vehicles. Why some people waited hours to get in. Funny woman Melissa Mccarthy is taking on a new role as a clothing designer. Shes launching her own fashion line for people who weigh a little more. Dont expect it to be labeled plus size. Im fat. Its okay. Its a small word that means a lot. Doesnt bother me. Reporter Melissa Mccarthy seven 7 is already being sold in major retailers. Her line will be available from size 4 to 28 and she doesnt feel its fair to use the word plus to describe clothing. What people dont realize is that 70 of american women are size 14 and above and the plus size industry is a 17. 5 billion business. Why dont we have a separate section for people who are preppy . That doesnt exist across stores but for some reason plus size is something that exists across all retailers. Reporter the bridesmaids star isnt afraid to tell it like it is and doesnt feel its fair she has to shop in a different part of the store. Oftentimes theyre situated in locations that are very far apart from the sections. She joked its oftentimes by the tires in the back of the stores. What a lot of people may not know is that mccarthy always wanted a career in fashion. After high school she moved from illinois to new york city where she attended f. I. T. Theres petit and short and regular and tall. I dont think they should have labels to everything. People are sensitive. I think designers and fashion people need to keep that in mind. I think they could eliminate the word plus and stick with the numbers.
