High School Students are upset that a popular teacher is off the job after talking about a Deadly School shooting. Nbc10s matt delucia is outside the school to explain, matt. Reporter tracy and vooir, some of the students and parents are concerned that they could be suspended themselves for supporting the teacher who is suspended. Right now, take a look. Some students and teachers concerned some parents, gathered to meet with the cherry hill superintendent. The issue in question is over a history teacher who was suspended for making remarks about what he called a lack of security at the school. Quite a few students have since come to his defense. Yesterday morning, some of them gathered in the auditorium to ask that the teacher be reinstated. Follow that up with a petition gathering around 500 signatures. Parents we spoke to say they, too, need better security and they will support their sons and daughters who intend to take a stand. I support them because this is what they believe in. And if they dont speak their mind now and then they grow up and they go into the workplace or whatever it is in life, and they need to be able to speak their own mind, what are we teaching them . If we cant speak their mind now. Reporter and last night, the superintendent told the crowd that he could not comment on the teachers suspension. Now, the day after the parkland shooting down in florida, the superintendent here sent out a letter to students and their parents saying the safety and security is the primary focus of responsibility. In a related story, dozens of colleges are telling Prospective Students that peaceful protests will not hurt their chance of getting in. Those schools include university of pennsylvania, temple and penn state. Students rocked by the massacre will return to class tomorrow. And soon another respond behind the wheel. The Philadelphia Parking Authority wants them to help catch drivers breaking the citys parking laws. Nbc10s katy zachry is live to explain. Katy. Reporter tracy and vai, it would use cameras on the septa buses to spot drivers illegally parking in bus zones throughout the city. Septa reviewed other cameras and found up to 2,000 violations a day where delivery trucks, Ride Sharing Services and cars stop for spots for the bus zone. And they have an act to ticket drivers. And this idea, septa drivers would snap a picture with a click of a finger when they see a vehicle in a bus zone. Now that picture would be reviewed by the parking authority. And tickets would be sent to the vehicles owners. Now, the city believes it could generate more than 10 million a year from this initiative. As far as accept tax well, they tout this as a major safety issue, saying its not as safe for bus passengers when buses cannot pull up to the sidewalk, when passengers have to walk into the street to get on or off of that. Anyone with unpaid parking tickets before 2013 can sign up for the program. People with towing and storage fees prior to 2015 are also eligible. 70 of those fees will be forgiven. The 32yearold father claims he did nothing wrong, that the video shows that. I didnt resist. I didnt do nothing. He needed more social skills. Or he need more training. The Camden County spokesperson saying the officer who responded to a tip call about someone with a gun at that location. New this morning, education secretary betsy devos is sending a team of investigator to Michigan State university to examine how the school handled allegations against former gymnastics doctor larry nasser is. Michigan state faces dozens of lawsuits that claimed that it ignored reports and warning signs about nassar as far back as 1997. A decision by the Supreme Court yesterday has young immigrants breathing a sigh of relief. In a condition considered a blow to the Trump Administration the high court declined to hear the lower courts really on the daca program. It also Means Congress has more time to come up with a more permanent immigration sluice. Lawmakers had been facing a march 5th deadline opposed by president trump. Daca allows undocumented immigrants brought here by their parents to go to school or work without fear of deportation. About 700,000 people are currently enrolled. One senator said the Supreme Court decision gives lawmakers more time to work on the legislation. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Election Officials say theyre moving ahead with the new congressional districts map for the upcoming may 15th primary. The Wolf Administration is asking the Supreme Court to turn down an appeal by Republican Leadership to put that map on hold.
