The police say the student had the Lethal Weapon in his book bag coming two weeks after the deadly shooting in florida that rattled the country. The school is in northeast philadelphia and it was placed on lockdown after the gun turned up this morning. Reporter miguel, this school has metal detectors. Parents havent always liked them but it changed today. Yeah. Thats right. Police tell us they were able to find that loaded gun in the students backpack because of those metal detectors. Parents i spoke to tell me those are very necessary, especially in todays day and age. Had they not found the gun somebody could have really got hurt today. Reporter this is the loaded gun the High School Police found in a 15yearold students backpack this morning. Police say the student ran his bag through detectors. Officials saw something suspicious and took the bag and called police. You want to send your kids to school and think theyre safe. You find out somebody brought a gun to school, its scary. Reporter police say he confessed to bringing the gun but dont know why. He must have gotten in somebodys car and took the bag. Some schools have the wands and wand the children and some schools have scanners and many schools have Police Officers present. Metal detectors in school shouldnt have to be but i think its necessary. Unfortunately we need it in schools because of incidents like that. If you dont have those type of devices it could have been a worse situation. Reporter police are asking parents to talk to their kids about the consequences of bringing any kind of weapon to school and reporting anything they find suspicious. A female Police Officer was found dead in the home along with another man. Both were pronounced dead at 12 30 this afternoon and Philadelphia Police not telling us the name or rank of the officer or what they think caused the two deaths saying it is a very active investigation. Days after several school buses were damaged in a fire, students went back to school today in the parkland district of Lehigh Valley and the school borrowed buses to get them back to school. Reporter at this point the scene has been cleared by police, the street back open. The last thing we saw police do was tow away a car that had new york plates on it. It was sometime afternoon officers made the discovery finding a female offduty Police Officer dead inside her home on the 2900 block of mercer street in the citys Port Richmond neighborhood. Look at videos shot earlier, people gathered on the street, many hugging, not answering any questions, and they were sticking around police who were here on the scene examining the house. We saw crime scene investigators as well as the medical Examiners Office and another man inside her home. Right now, investigators are trying to figure that out. The 2900 block here is open for traffic that the Police Presence has diminished here as well. Some of the neighbors talking about that officer, saying show was a great Police Officer. Some here saying they knew her from either in the neighborhood or on the job. At this point, the police not releasing identities of those found inside that house. A 15yearold philadelphia student is facing charges after he was caught with a loaded gun at school happened at Samuel Fels High School in northwest philadelphia. He set off the metal detectors when he tried to walk through and the school was put on lockdown. He admitted to stealing the gun but didnt know why he brought to it school.
