A flood watch ask in effect for many parts of western pa through sunday. Announcer now your nbc 10 first alert weather. And even though part of that same system is headed this way, were not expecting that kind of flooding that we saw in western pennsylvania, the ohio valley, tennessee valley, lots of other places in the country. You can see the tops of the buildings sort of cut off by the low clouds which are going to hang around here keeping it damp through sunday. But the wettest period is saturday night into sunday morning and we dont see the sun until monday. We have cloudy skies everywhere, as you can see, most places are in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees. And the temperature not going up very much. And were about 5 to 10 degrees colder than we were that the time yesterday. You remember yesterday the temperatures started dropping during the afternoon. Today it will be going up but not by a whole lot. We have feelslike temperatures in the 30s everywhere, so even where the temperature has reached 40 degrees it still didnt feel like 40 degrees with that chilly wind off the ocean. And in delaware, we have some places still in the 30s. Greenville, limestone road, glass costill at 30 nine degrees. Farther to the south in delaware were generally in the 40s, delaware bay and the atlantic over 40 degrees so you get a wind like this and you see temperatures in the 40s. Bridgeville, georgetown, mill burrow, lewis, lincoln, all at 43 degrees. Heres one patch of rain that moved through earlier this morning, we continue to keep the clouds because of the east wind and theres more rain back to the west, western pennsylvania and into the ohio valley and were going to get wave after wave of rain coming through. So its not a steady rain through the day, the temperature creeps up and then heres some more coming later in the afternoon. Then we get a break for much of the night, maybe a little bit of drizzle and thats about it. And then during the day tomorrow we start to see temperatures go up a little, and then more rain coming in, especially saturday night and into sunday. You can see here, we dont have to worry so much about temperatures dropping or changing to snow. This is just wave after wave of this westerly flow. And theres sunday and theres nor showers, maybe somebody heavy showers during the afternoon on sunday. And then later in the day on sunday we might be getting up a little bit warmer and, again, we have to wait till monday for the sun to come back out. And here to tell us a lot more are Melinda Steph if i, the executive director of live connections and graham kill shaw, the cofounder of kids rock philly. Thanks to you both for being here. Thank you. Graham, lets start with you. Kids rock philly, tell us all about it. Well, it started about a year ago. My two sons play at the school of rock in Fort Washington and the first few shows i ever went to i was just amazed at the level of talent of these teenagers, its just astounding. I just started to think what about a bigger stage and how could we turn that into something more . I met with with the owner and founder of world cafe live and between us we said, what about a big benefit concert . And it went from there. Just hearing that little clip, pretty impressive. Were not just talking about kids playing cover songs. They have their own music, original music too . Thats right. Sundays event is going to be two stages, the downstairs stage is going to be cover songs. And the upstairs stage is going to be an original material showcase. All these kids are so talented, theyre original music fans, singer song writers, various performers. Theres going to be a lot of original material. And melinda, proceeds from this event goes go to help your organization live connections. Tell us about that and thousand benefits kids. Sure. Live connections will turn ten years old this spring. Weve by then well have reached about 40,000 participants in philly, most from Public Schools where, you know, we start whend there was a crisis of School Budgets and music programs were being cut. And we still fill in the gaps, but we also use music as a tool to teach students about the world to give them a chance to express their own voice when it comes to their personal stories or what theyre processing in the world. And so were really thrilled to be able to partner with school of rock and world cafe live to make that possible for even more students in the coming year. And this event is not just about letting students show off their talents because weve seen theyre very talented. But its also about giving back, supporting community. Talk about why thats an important piece of this. Well, i think rocknroll has a great legacy. Musicians giving back. Its something thats embedded in music. At live connections we believe it builds community and we focus on collaboration and muse kick bring people who might not come together. Well, the cloudy skies that we have now are going to be hanging around pretty much the entire weekend. It wont be necessarily quite as chilly as it is now. Its 40 in philadelphia, you can see overcast conditions reported everywhere and parts of the area are still in the 30s. And all of the areas feeling like the 30s as you can see, we have at least some wind added to those lower temperatures. Feels like 34 in philadelphia, 32 degrees in pottstown. The wind coming straight off the Atlantic Ocean and east wind, not real strong, 5 to 10 miles per hour. A little stronger in wildwood, but that wind is going to help keep those low clouds in. And it also prevents these temperatures from going down much at night so that there would be any kind of an ice threat or a change over to snow threat. So fleetwood at 36 is likely to stay near 36 for the low temperature. And if anything, go up a little bit later today and tonight. Mertztown 36, white hall 37, bethlehem 37, easton 37 as well. Nazareth 36 degrees. Thats pretty chilly and when its raining its even nastier. But the first batch of rain has moved offshore. We have a little bit more coming into the Lehigh Valley and poconos now and more significant rain back in western pennsylvania and the ohio valley there are whole band of moisture is going to be settling over the area for a good bit of the weekend. So its going to take a while before we get past that. And in the afternoon, temperatures creeping up just a little bit and patchy areas of mostly light rain or drizzle. Tonight, not much more than any kind of drizzle. Tomorrow morning same story. And then we get more patches of rain coming in from the west. So its not a steady rain, its not going to be range aining al time but well get a number of hours of rain this weekend. Now heres when it starts getting heavier. But thats later, saturday night and into sunday morning, the temperatures nowhere near the freezing marks, dont have to worry about that. And heres 6 00 a. M. On sunday and weve got some moderate to heavy rain in the Lehigh Valley, berks county, bucks county as well, and 9 00, 10 00 in the morning some locally very heavy rain. But this continues to move so were not expecting any kind of significant or widespread flooding out of this system despite the number of hours that were going to be seeing it raining. And there we are sunday in the afternoon we finally droy out. We get temperatures up near 60 degrees which would be way above normal. As far as the amounts of rain, were talking about a half inch to perhaps an inch and a half over a threeday period. Thats not enough to cause flooding but weve had enough rain this month.
