This thing, firefighters have gotten this under control. This is at 3rd and Chestnut Streets. Theyre still working to get rid of every single extinguish all the flames. As of 6 48 a. M. , they do not expect it to spread anymore. You can see the heavy black smoke consuming this block of Chestnut Street for the past four hours. Theyre going to expect a lot of smoke damage. The building affected will have severe fire damage in all of those apartments. This is at third and chestnut across from the museum of the american revolution. It has a number of bars, hotels, shopping districts and apartments. A number of people in the apartments of the affected buildings were evacuated. Nearby buildings also evacuated. Some 60 people were just evacuated in the past hour because they were in a nearby building and were told to get out. At this point, we can report no injuries according to fire officials. They are going to continue investigating. They got to get their crews inside the building to survey the damage. But right now, we can say the fire is under control after nearly four hours of working. Were expecting an update with commissioner adam thiel in a minute. Well bring that to you when we get it. After four hours, this thing under control. This is a look at first alert radar and satellite. Weve got the gray overlay spinning out. What that means is the clouds are thinning out. Weve got sunshine now. Going to keep it sunshine the rest of the day. That snowstorm that passed us overnight right there. It is out of here. In fact, its already moving out of boston and then no longer a worry. It really did impact most of new england. If you have any travel plans, youve got tomorrow, president s day off and hoping to head to the northeast, a heads up, theres probably snow on the ground. Lets talk about the temperatures. Many of us are warming above freezing. Were at 35 and chilly. Even mount holly at 34 degrees. Areas north and west are more borderline. 33 allentown. 30 for bluebell. These are locations where the snow accumulated. Dont be surprised if theres slick spots and iciness on sidewalks or roadways and slush. Take it slow. The temperatures will be pressing above freezing in not too long. That will help melt thag off. For the rest of us, wet roadways drying out. Look at this. From 35 right now to about 40 at 10 00 a. M. By 1 00 in the afternoon, 44 degrees. Hard to imagine after snow moved through overnight, but were looking at temperatures that getaway hotter than this in the dates to come. Breaking records. Reporter things are look pretty good on the roads themselves, dray. Take a look at this. This is hamilton street at the intersection of 7th street. Crews have done a pretty good job of clearing things up this morning. Theyve been out working since overnight. The only issue you have to worry about are some of the sides of the outer lanes when it comes up to the curb. There is some snow piled up there. But all of that seemts to be just a little bit wet. The one thing you have to watch out for, conditions on the sidewalk where im standing right now, its dry but take a look there. Theres snow. Some of the stuff thats wet on the sidewalk, thats actually ice. Somebody is back in the distance there. Maybe you cant see because of some of the stuff in the way. Clearing off the sidewalk with a snowblower right now. So people are beginning to wake up this morning. Theyre starting to clear things up. 76, the northeast extension on the way up to allentown this morning. Didnt see any major problems there. The roadways were clear. Just a little bit wet. Tree branches weighed down by the snow fell on to the highway around 11 00 last night. Traffic slowed to a crawl. People were out trying to have dinner. The robbers grabbed an unknown amount of cash and took off in a car. No shots were fired and no one hurt. The robbers are still on the loose this morning. Five minutes past 7 00 on this sunday. But a lot of them are thinning out. The time is 7 09. Well be at 40 degrees by 10 00 a. M. At noontime, 43 degrees. There you go. In the afternoon, mid, upper 40s for highs. Im forecasting a high hitting 48 degrees. It will be sunny throughout the afternoon. Just a little breezy. Winds will be 10 to 15 Miles Per Hour. Gusts up to 25 Miles Per Hour possible. A look from sky force 10 over an active fire scene in the old city neighborhood. Sky force 10 is flying above third and Chestnut Streets. A fire broke out early this morning on the first floor of the building that has a restaurant and then apartments and condos above. In fact, the fire commissioner tells us that this fire has devoured everything in this building from the basement all the way up to the 6th floor. We know that as many as 60 people have been evacuated from this neighborhood of old city. And that upwards of 140 firefighters who have been on the scene. As you can see, were not looking at a lot of flames, mostly smoke. Thats because they contained this fire and its really just the damage appears to be mostly to the building where the flames broke out. Well continue to watch this and have a live update from the scene with nbc 10s Randy Gyllenhaal at 7 30. Another developing story this morning. 66 people are dead in a plane crash in southern iran. A plane went down in a foggy mountainous region this morning killing everyone on board. They cant reach the site because of the foggy conditions. No word on what caused that plane to go down. A market holiday, big name retail earnings and maybe a box office record. All in the week ahead. It will be a short week on wall street with the markets closed monday for the president s day holiday. That breaking news this morning is in old city where a fire in philadelphias Historic District hit four alarms this morning and forced dozens of people from inside of their apartments. Firefighters just learned, successful in containing the fire. Now its under control. Still quite a scene. Take a look behind me. Theres still work and they dont expect it to spread anymore. As the sun comes up here in old city philadelphia, you can see how much damage was done to this sixstory building. Lets take a live look from above sky force 10 hovering above the scene. This is the corner of third and Chestnut Streets in old city. Fire Officials Say the flames started in a sixstory building. 239 Chestnut Street across from the museum of the american revolution. Its a building that includes apartments, a diner, pizza shop, dozens of residents in the upstairs apartments have been evacuated. Youll see video from last night. Heavy flames. The fire commissioner telling us the flames were so intense throughout this fight, it made it really difficult to get it under control. Take a listen. We always do, they made an aggressive interior attack. They found heavy fires showing the First Company from the first and second floor. They had to pull out because there was the volume of fire was tremendous, as you can see. We basically tried to cut it off in the exposures and put the fire out. Again, thats why were using four alarms, plus of apparatus. Reporter this fire peaked at four alarms. So Many Companies from around the city helping out. Dozens of residents in both the apartments as well as people staying in a nearby hotel have all been evacuated. They have to find other places to stay right now. The good news, one, the fire is under control and two, no injuries to report. They still need to go inside and look through every room and apartment for anybody left. Frequently when we see these fires in the winter time, the firefighters have to deal with difficult conditions in terms of the weather. Good thing theyre starting to rise this morning. After the winter blast last night, the snow still on the ground but well see a big melt because temperatures are expected to climb today as we go into the week. Krystal klei this morning, talking about that big warmup. Krystal . Guys, were looking at a big warmup over the next several days. Today, though, it will be impressive in itself. Instead of the 30s overnight, were talking about mid upper 40s for highs. Radar and satellite, its obvious that this is a different picture than last night. The system is out of here. Instead, were announcing sunshine. The clouds eroded and its a clear sky overhead. But temperatures are still marginal. Meaning that the snow totals that were highest, mostly in berks county, Lehigh Valley area, they still have snow in the front yard. Allentown got up to 8 inches. Theyll have to deal with some shoveling and also we are looking at the areas melting off slowly but surely later today. So temperatures right now, still supporting the snow in bluebell. Coastal, reading. Its not started to melt quite yet. Its ultimately where you could see icy or slushy spots. The numbers will be increasing and that will be a lower concern. For areas like philly at 35 in millville. Really no big issues. Roadways were just wet overnight. They have not froze up because we are in those mid30s right now. Whats next . Sun and melting for your sunday. Really going to start to see that trend upward with our temperatures. Then by the workweek, record warmth. Were talking tuesday and wednesday looking at records. But that rainy pattern has not left us. Chances of rain several times over the next ten. Well look at that closely coming up. Krystal showed us some of the early snow totals. You can see where the snow has been pushed off to the side. This truck over here, probably got about 6 inches of snow on the top. Crews, again, have been out since overnight. All morning long, trying to clear things up. Even though things are pretty clear right now, weve seen them driving around with the salt trucks and plow trucks as well. I want to point something out to you. Some of the sidewalks are pretty clear but some icy as well. Take a look, weve got snow over here and all this down here that looks wet, its actually a sheet of ice. You want to be careful. Especially if youre walking this morning. We know that over night, penndot reduced the speed limit on some of the roadways. That has now been lifted. Weave traveled 76, the northeast extension to get here. Didnt have any major trouble spots there. As krystal says, the temperature is going to increase throughout the day. Hopefully we shouldnt encounter too many icy spots on the way out. In fact, this morning, its trending on twitter. Take a listen. We know that theyre claiming that there are Mental Health issues and i am not a psychologist, but we need to Pay Attention to the fact that this isnt just a Mental Health issue. He wouldnt have harmed that many students with a knife. Thats emma gonzalez, part of a rally at the courthouse in Broward County yesterday. Organizers are calling for what they say are quoteunquote sensible gun safety laws. Specifically, they want a ban on assault weapons, background checks at gun shows and a national gun registry. Im here because im scared to go to school. Im here because it happened so close to home and i know so many of the victims. Just miles away from the rally, 17yearold Joaquin Oliver was laid to rest. The High School Senior is one of the 17 murdered. There are 14 more funerals planned for the coming days, including for the athletic director, chris hixon originally from the poconos. He died protecting students from the gunfire. Closer to home, a woman is dead following a house fire in the fox chase neighborhood. Firefighters responded to this burning home last night. We can see the intensity of the flames. It took crews about 90 minutes to bring the fire under control. The victim unfortunately died at the scene. Two firefighters are also hurt. Theyre expected to be okay. Investigators will be looking for the cause of the fire. On this sunday, a familiar face in politics is dropping hints about a possible president ial run. Biden brought up the idea last night during a planning meeting for his new biden center for diplomacy and Global Engagement in washington. He said its a real possibility and keeping options open. The commercial Rocket Company plans to use a falcon 9 rocket to launch an internet satellite at exactly 9 16 this morning. Less than two weeks ago, the company sent the more powerful heavy falcon rocket into space. Its set to launch from Vandenberg Air force base. It launched another satellite back in august before landing on a drone ship at sea. No such landing will be a at the present timed today. Unfortunately, this pattern of School Shootings has become very familiar for us in the u. S. And nothing seems to change. We thought after the murder of 20 children at sandy hook and six adults, something would change. That hasnt happened. Could florida be the difference this time . Look, its possible were at a Tipping Point moment. The cynic in me says, in washington nothing is going to change on this front after having after the sandy hook experience. First graders getting mowed down wasnt going to change the culture, what would . But we have had three of the worst Mass Shootings take place in the last five months. Combine that with after parkland, you see an activism from the students, something we havent seen after the shootings before. These students are mourning, but theyre angry. And theyre these are very mature high school students. Theyre very aware of the world being raised on social media. More connected than any generation weve ever had. That activism, that idea they want to speak out here, that could have an impact that weve not seen before. I think its certainly something to keep an eye on. Chuck, we also got significant news on the russia investigation this week. Obviously, the indictments tying russians to the 2016 election and meddling and interference in the election. We should point out for viewers and people who are following this that we dont know what in terms of the evidence thats been gathered. And what else could be coming down the pike. Thats right. I think the fact is, i look at this indictment and i see an investigation that is clearly very thorough, very meticulous. You look at this. There are no holes in this indictment. It is a theyve got him. Theyve caught the russians. Theyve caught this ol gark close to putin. It gives the mother probe a lot of credibility. This is only this part of it. Notice what was not a part of this indictment. Nothing about the wikileaks or the stolen emails. We know russians are behind that too. We dont know how yet. Mueller is investigating that.
