A sea of candles in parkland, florida, last night burning in remembrance of the 17 lives cut shorts in that School Shooting on wednesday. On stage 17 ornamental angels. Thousands of people came together to cry and pray. They called the vigil a shoal of solidarity. These things do happen. It isnt a movie. Today several more vigils, Prayer Services and a prayer walk are scheduled to be held around Broward County to remember and mourn the victims. These are the photos of some of the victims. All but three are teenagers. A football coach, an Athletic Director and a teacher are among the dead. They are being praised for their last acts, trying to protect the students. And authorities are Holding Nicholas cruz without bond on 17 counts of premeditated murder. Cruz confessed to wednesdays attack, but his motive remains unclear. The Broward CountySheriffs Office says they are looking into claims he was part of a White Supremacist Group but so far havent found a connection. And in the wake of a shootings theres a nation widecall to action. People are asking lawmakers what theyre doing to prevent future tragedies. Nbc 10s matt delucia is in our digital operation center. At this point theres no consensus on what to do or even where to focus. Is it guns or meantal health. Charlie dent says he supported the idea of enhancing back grand checks and banning bump stocks. And also one says she wants research on the cause for gun violence. Even some of the president s allies like Florida Governor rick scott are calling for action. How do we make sure that individuals with Mental Illness do not touch a gun . We want to make sure if someones in the Mental Health system they dont get a gun. We will find out as facts come out weather there was a break down in the system or not. Florida lawmakers want action starting with the president s visit to community this weekend. Now, the Florida School massacre has hit home for a grandfather from bucks county. His grandson was in that high school where 17 were killed. That grandfather waited for hours for word. He held his breath hoping his 15yearold grandson, ruben, a freshman at the school would be okay. Ruben survived but he lost a friend in the violence. He said he cant imagine his grandson being under attack in his own school. So im angry, im hurt, im frighten. You can pick one of those adjectives you want to use first because they all apply. He wants the country to come up with a solution for what he calls real gun violence. Police in camden are investigating a car crash that killed an 8yearold girl and sent three other people to the hospital. Sky force 10 was over the scene near 5th and state street last night. A car jumped a curb and hit a group of people there. The 84yearold driver was also hurt but is expected to be okay. And new this morning, Philadelphia District attorney larry crasner is dropping dozens of Marijuana Possession cases as part of a new policy. Yesterday he said his prosecutors and better serve the public by tackling more serious crimes. I did it because i believe its the right thing to do. We can use those resources to solve homicides. That should mitigate some Racial Disparity because we all know that these laws are not getting enforced at the wawa and chestnut hill. These laws are getting enforced in neighborhoods that are predominantly poor and black or brown. It allows police to Issue Citations for Marijuana Possession punishable by a fine. A dispensary in bethlehem will be the first in our region to start selling medical marijuana to patients. Others will open tomorrow. Only patients registered with the States Program can buy it. Meteorologist bill henley has your first alert forecast in just a couple of minutes. Amtraks Top Executive says the railroad is considering suspending service on tracks that do not have updated Safety Systems by the end of the year. Pamela, what would this deadline mean . Reporter well, it comes down to this. Amtrak is willing to take a stance. They are willing to cause a disruption to its service if it means pushing for safety across the industry. Amtraks ceo and president Richard Anderson told the house subcommittee it will stop running trains on tracks owned by third parties like new Jersey Transit until Safety Measures like positive train control are put in place. It comes after two amtrak trains were involved in fatal crashes within the past two months on third party lines. Railroads across the country were given a deadline of december 31st by congress to get trains and rails equipped with positive train control, the technology that can prevent an accident before it occurs. Some rails are asking for extensions on that deadline, and thats where amtrak says it may stop its service. In the past 50 years more than 300 people have been killed and about 150 crashes that investigators say could have been prevented by ptc. That includes the may 2015 incident where eight people were killed and more than 200 were injured in philadelphia after a train going twice the speed on a curve derailed. Amtrak has ptc on about 700 miles of tracks it owns in the northeast corridor. But they say it should be on all routes and on all passenger trains as well. We checked in with septa, and we learned that their regional rails are all equipped with ptc. Reporting live in cherry hill, im pamela osborn. Positive train control is also a priority for new jersey governor phil murphy. In an announcement yesterday he said ptc is a key component of changes he wants to make to new Jersey Transit. We will see the snow falling for much of the area. Weve issued a first alert for pennsylvania suburbs for the Lehigh Valley from 6 00 saturday evening until sunday at 5 00 in the morning. Thats when well see 3 to 6 inches of snow mainly on the grass. Temperatures are going to be too warm to begin with. Well see a lot of that first snow amendment as it comes down. But some roads will be impacted. Temperatures will be falling in the evening hours, but during the afternoon 38 degrees in philadelphia. Thats why im expecting that first snow in philadelphia to melt as it comes down. A little chill ain the Lehigh Valley. By sunday, though, sunshine is back. And look at the warmup. Close to 50 degrees in philadelphia and up to 50 for the jersey shore and delaware. Others were making plan for college, three were educators now hailed for their bravery. And surviving students now call their final acts selfless. Matt, people are starting to share stories about the lives of those whose lives were tragically cut short on wednesday. One student was in the marching band, another had just become a u. S. Citizen. 17 lives taken away, kids, teachers and a coach who never made it home from school. These are the faces of some of the victims. They were gunned down inside and outside the school. The 49yearold was the athletics director at the school in florida. And also aaron, the Security Guard who gave his life by protecting students by using himself as a human shield. And it was one parent who voiced her outrage on Live Television over the death of her daughter. He died saving his students. Without him some kids wouldnt even be able to hug their parents. I just spent the last two hours putting the burial arrangements of my daughters funeral whos 14 and in addition to the 17 killed, 14 others were injured. Their stories steel being heard and felt this morning. Here in our area several Community Groups are sponsoring a candlelight vigil in langhorn this evening to honor the victims of the massacre. And this morning were getting a look at new video from inside a classroom as the attack was happening. We do want to warn you that you might find this video a little disturbing. Please help us. Get this, she saw the warning signs in her own grandson and possibly stopped another School Massacre plot just one day before the attack in florida. She called police after finding her grond sons journal and his alleged plan for mass killing. His entry said he want today be infamous and would not make the same mistakes as other attackers. When Police Arrested the teen Tuesday Morning they found a semiautomatic rifle and explosives. A former teacher in new york city accused of paying students to help him build a bomb is now facing federal charges. Authorities found more than 30 pounds of chemicals and other materials commonly used in explosives in his apartment. They also found a guide on how to make a bomb. The suspects brother also faces charges in the case. Community leaders will meet this morning in philadelphia with the governor of puerto rico. Theyre hosting a community breakfast. Local government leaders will be among those attending.
