I was standing on the porch and the cop was like theres a guy with a gun. Please g inside. Youre not safe outside hoop. Reporter he shot at this Armored Vehicle multiple times cutting through steel. None of the officers inside were injured. 18 residents in all were evacuated and others stayed inside overnight. Over the course of 12 hours, they never fired a suingle shot. Im very glad its over. Residents here are relieved. Some neighbors say and shared they used their cell phones to record some of the Conversation Police were having with the man inside. Reporter dr. James kaufman appearing in court by video for the First Time Since being charged with the 2012 killing of his wife april kauffman. Hes not guilty. The doctor has maintained his innocence for the past five years. Hes assisted in attempting to give information. Reporter kaufman charged tuesday with orchestrating the murder for hire plot and leading an illegal opioid distribution ring connected to the pagan motorcycle gang run out of his medical practice. He and two others arrested on racketeering charges also going before a judge. The radio host was killed in the home after she threatened to divorce her husband and expose the drug operation. I am so dumbfound ed and shocked by all this. A close friend of april long suspected dr. Kaufman played a role in his wifes murder. But she says she was stunned to learn of the alleged part. Both he and april grew up together. That was the shocking part. Because i thought they were it friends. Reporter according to Court Records a confidential informant had numerous recorded conversations who admitted details of the drug enterprise and the murder. Court documents also allege he plotted to have dr. Coughman killed by the mafia or people at the jail. Drop the gun. Sd kaufman was locked up there on weapons charges after showing a gun when investigators came to search his office. He was moved to the Hudson County jail following the arrest. E we dont think it would be prudent to lodge them together. Reporter they are due in court on tuesday for detention hearings. Now to new details in the Murder Investigation of a university of pennsylvania student who was found dead in california. Today we learned that three search warrants have been issued in connection with the death of blaze bernstein. We also know that a High School Friend was the last person to see the sophomore alive. He told police that the two of them went to meet someone at the park where bernstein was later found dead. His grandfather spoke last nugt at a vigil for the teen. We thank god for the finality. Hes with god now. The friend interviewed is not named as a person of interest or a suspect. Were still awaiting bernsteins official cause of death. The owner of a popular diner in south jersey telling us his family is devastated after flames destroyed that business overnight. Fire hit the country town diner just after midnight. It is now 57 in philadelphia. 56 in wilmington. 47 in mount pocono. Tomorrow were going for 66 in fairmo fairmont. 62 in al lentown. We have the threat of some thunderstorms in parts of the area. You dont see this very much in january. But its just one day. 64 in voorhees. Its coming in off that colder ocean. And now hour by hour, what a change we have. Here we are in the 50s right now. And were watching the rain come in. Not so much this evening. But by morning and were in the 50s to start the day. So if youre not going to need a heavy coat. Thats for sure. And later in the morning, more rain. Now were starting to see the yellows and reds. The heavier rain, possible thunderstorms and localized flooding. Were seeing the temperature go up too. Into the 60s. 10 00 we still have showers in the area. And then another batch perhaps first thing saturday morning. Look at the temperature. 57 degrees to start the day. By 11 00 a. M. Family and friends are gathering to remember a philadelphia fire lieutenant who died in the line of duty last weekend. The lieutenant was killed while battling the flames inside a north philadelphia home. Today one of his fellow firefighters share memories of the man he call ed a brother. Miguel has the story. A recording of the studios brought them face to face for the first and last time. 13 years later the fire sticks with him because of the brief encounter. He was alone and it was like i dont know how to explain it. It was like a relief. It was just a thrill to e see him come through that third floor window. That ladder. That relief, that thrill now regret he didnt get to see him again before his death. The lieutenant was one of 100 firefighters who responded to a fire in north philadelphia saturday morning. We have one member unaccounted for. A Structure Collapse trapped him under the debris for 30 minutes. His Fire Fighting family tried desperately to get him out. He was pronounced dead in the hospital later that morning. Were one big family. Whether you meet the guy one time or when you meet him and hang out with him on a weekly basis. Thursday and friday they loved ones including his fire family will gather for a viewing to pay their respects, share their love and think it for service. It was a pleasure meeting him that day.
