Neighbors are taking shelter inside their homes while police try to reach a barricaded suspect who shot at police early this morning. Were live from the Brittany Woods development where the standoff is now in its ninth hour. Whats happening . Reporter well, police are keeping us about a quarter mile from the home where this is all happening right now. Its happening in the Brittany Woods neighborhood. Were right across the street staging at a local high school. This is where police and ems workers are gathering and there are a number of ambulances here as well. As the helicopter landing zone just in case though they say they do not have any injuries to report. The suspect began firing from a house. Well show you some video. This started happening about 8 00 or 9 00. At one point the suspect even shot at officers hitting an armoured swat vehicle with officers inside. Police have not returned fire at this point but they do have that house is surrounded. Police will not comment at this point whether anybody is inside the home with that suspect. They are urging neighbors around that house to shelter in place. We just spoke with one man who has loved ones in that neighborhood. Yeah, she says shes worried. We do have a son, hes ten, so hes sleeping. He doesnt know whats going on, so thats a good thing so it doesnt worry him or stress him out. That is the area that we are asking our community here to shelter in place and we will continue to provide updates to the community through our social media platforms. This is where they want people to stay indoors. Any homes around hamp shire road, parsons court, prospect court, brook shire road, those are the homes closest to this barricade situation and they want people in those homes to stay indoors. Again, at this point, no injuries though police say they have evacuated about 18 people who live right near that house to a local fire station. We should also note that its possible schools in this area could be closed today. That decision has not been made yet. Theyre waiting to see if they can peacefully resolve this before school starts. The owner tells us he and his elderly parents who help him run the parents left around 10 00 last night, just a couple of hours later is when that fire started. The owner believes the fire broke out in the kitchen area. Thats a theory that fire officials will be working to get to the bottom of today, but back to the diner, the owner took over the restaurant before mothers day so it hasnt been very long shiince weve had the restaurant. Ill be honest. I mean, ive my moth is disabled, my father has heart problems and i was the only one who keeps them on a daily basis. Theyre with me every day. They live with me. The customers are great. She loves coming to work every day and shes really going to be upset over this. Yeah. So hopefully, you know, the rebuilds or something will happen.
