We continue our Team Coverage now with nbc 10 live in new castle, delaware. What are the conditions right there . Reporter well, we have been seeing steady snow and here on the ground you might also be able to see that there is accumulation here, at least a couple of inches. Right here along route 13 you can see that cars are making their way through very slowly, just about a minute ago we saw a large group of trucks, salt trucks and plow trucks going down south here on dupont parkway. We were coming off of route 1 on to 13 on the exit ramp there and it is still pretty snow covered. You really do have to take it easy. Its still early on with this snowstorm so you really have to take extra care and caution when you are out on the roadways, but we have been seeing those salt trucks on the roadways. Dell dot, they have had crews on the road since about 10 00 last night. So as we come back live here, again in new castle, in this parking lot here, you can see just the snow tracks there, so a lot of these parking lots and untreated roadways you have to be careful because they are slick already this morning. Thank you. Its 4 02 right now. The jersey shore is bracing for a big hit from this winter storm. Heres a live look right now at Atlantic City and there is a blizzard warning for the jersey shore today. Lets take a look at the skyline where you cant see it in this but this camera doesnt reflect those flakes coming down, but weve been driving on the roads and it has been falling for some time. South jersey expects 4 to 8 inches of snow before this leaves us later today. This is a live look from philadelphia at broad center. A snow emergency is in effect for philadelphia which means all parked cars have to be moved off those snow emergency routes for plowing. Lets talk to bill henley about whats going on out there. Our meteorologists have been here all night. The first snow flakes moving in to the philadelphia area. This is a live look from the studios. The snow is going to be intensifying this morning and its going to be accumulating snow. The snow is moving in right now. Its going to make for treacherous travel not only this morning but for most of the day. Blizzard conditions for parts of the area. Along the shore, thats the greatest chance of seeing the winds strong enough, the visibility low enough and the heavy snow moving in for those blizzard conditions but after the snow tapers off well be in for cold gusty winds. Theyll be kicking in again this afternoon, so blowing snow and bitter cold to follow. Massive snowstorm. The centers way to the south but its already spreading snow right up the east coast including our area. You see some of the heavier bands that have moved through some of the suburbs and into delaware as well. Still expecting to see the heaviest snowfall in southern delaware and south jersey especially closer to the coast and cape may is getting that band of heavier snow moving through and the wind has picked up here as well. Cape may through Cape May County and to the north is getting its share of snow right now and theres more on the way. The temperatures are in the 20s for each part of our area. Cloudy skies in the lehigh valley, but the snow already falling and accumulating for philadelphia, delaware, south jersey and at the shore 27 degrees. The shore temperatures are solidly in the 20s so whats coming down is sticking this morning and its going to stay on the ground all day long. The winds, those right now at 23 Miles Per Hour. Thats steady at 23 Miles Per Hour. The gusts are closer to 40 Miles Per Hour in millville. Theyve pulled back a little bit in dover and they will be increasing as the day goes on. Thats the other component of this storm system thats going to be affecting us even into tonight as cold air rides into the area. Some of the worst of it though into delaware and south jersey. Were focusing in on what you can expect there during the day today. So were watching very closely over those location because this is where the most treacherous conditions are likely. This is over cape may and you can see still have visibility but its not great at this point and those conditions are likely to worsen as we go through the Morning Hours. This is the camera well be checking on quite often. Lets talk about the neighborhood forecast for the jersey shore. This is through 6 00 a. M. This morning and you can see that little deeper blue indicates a steadier to heavier snowfall with those strong winds falling in from the north. Temperatures will stay below freezing and because weve been under such a cold spell everything that falls sticks to the ground and when its really cold air that snow falls in, there are big fluffy flakes and theyre easy to blow around. So we go through 6 00 a. M. Through 9 30 in the morning. Mid to upper 20s at best and still a steady snow. In fact, this is a little deeper blue than it was at 6 00 a. M. So intensifying in the heaviest of snow and the stronger wind gusts, you get those blizzard like conditions. This is at noon and there you go, by 3 00 things start to weaken. That white indicates the snowfall but at this point the damage will be done. Theres a snow report of two inches at mays landing from this morning in those earliest hours. This is our storm impact scale. A he a red high impact. The heaviest snow falling through the Morning Hours which means the morning commute, when you have a blizzard warning in place, treacherous at best, impossible likely. 8 to 12 inches what were forecasting with icy roads. Gusts 40 to 50 Miles Per Hour. Well talk more about snow total forecasts through all of our regions coming up in just a few minutes. About 11 minutes after 4 00 right now t. We want to get a check on the roads because some of the majors are seeing a bunch of snow covered stretches that may slow you down this morning. Jessica boyington has you covered with what you have heading out the door. When we dont have tons of volumes of people heading out the door, we still have treacherous roads and problems on the roads. It might be a closure because of slippery spots. Heres 95 right around 322. You can definitely see some snow accumulating off to the side. It hasnt gathered too much on the roads yet, but snow is gathering so we are starting to see some problems. We have a tractor trailer fire out in penns grove on 295 southbound side. This is closing all of the southbound lanes right now near route 48 which is exit 4. The southbound traffic here would be moving south and getting to the Memorial Bridge. Theyre not letting you through, so theyre going to detour you around. Take the new jersey turnpike. Facing a snowstorm right now, a winter blast is hitting everyone in our area. Were tracking it right now. All right. Good morning, guys. Im at raceway park in english town new jersey where we have storm ranger fired up and ready to go. The first flakes flying about 20 minutes ago. Ill take you both inside and outside the truck and show you what kind of technology this is and how its changing the game with neighborhood weather. Well see you in a few minutes. What you can do to make sure your heating system continues to work in the bitter conditions. And unpatriotic, the heated statement from a former president ally that is sparking a war of words. And we continue to track the winter storm on the left of your screen, a live look at ocean city which is under a blizzard warning. On the right you can see snow also coming down in center city philadelphia. That camera doesnt capture it too well but it is coming down. And you can see the winds by the flag as well and now lets get to steve whos live in storm ranger 10. Youre tracking conditions in englishtown. Tell us more. Reporter thats right. This is where they usually are racing cars and have monster trucks out on the parking lot here, but the only monster truck that we have is our monster truck. This is storm ranger 10. As you can see, this black radar that you see up in the air, its about 17 feet high is sending pulses out in the atmosphere and looking for targets. Those targets would be snow flakes and we are tracking a band of snow flakes that is inside the truck here. So i want to show you some of the technology that we have on board because basically we can run an entire weather show out of this truck and this is kind of the Game Changing technology, so you can see i can punch up different cameras within the truck. I can see whats going on outside. We have a camera mounted on our windshield and you can punch up inside and then this is the actual control display for our radar so that we can actually determine where snow and rain bands are. And so we are doing that at neighborhood levels. So lets take a look and show you what is storm ranger detecting in parts of new jersey right now. And it is detecting some snow across much of middle counties. Well be watching that throughout the course of the morning as that snow band moves from west to east east to west and as we do so well continue to track it throughout the morning and well show you the technology thats on board here. A real time radar on wheels. All right. Thanks for that. We appreciate it. We have a lot of technology and a lot of people working for you today. Now, once the snow moves out we have even colder air moving in. This extended deep freeze is wreaking havoc on home Heating Systems because of high usage. We tagged along with several Heating Repair Companies yesterday. Theyve been working to repair and replace stressed out Heating Systems. One main takeaway to help keeping it working efficiently. Try to keep it working at one temperature over the course of this storm. People tend to, you know, when you go to work you turn your heat down a couple degrees. It makes your heater run that much harder when you try and turn the heat back up. And heres another interesting thing that we learned. Your heating system may not be able to get your home as warm as you would like it but it could still be working even though it doesnt feel as warm as what you set it for. Thats because some systems arent designed to handle the brutally cold temperatures that we are expecting right now. And the one two punch, first lets talk about the snow and then talk about the cold. And well bring in bill henley with that. This is a pretty clear view across the delaware from the adventure aquarium. This visibility in this view will go down during the day as the snow intensifies this morning. So thats the view from philadelphia. Now check out cape may with the temperatures in philadelphia in the 20s and more snow on the way, we expect the view of philadelphia to at times look more like this with strong gusty winds on some steady snow, but the worst of it is going to be in delaware and the shore. Look at that view at cape may. You can see the shake in the camera and blowing snow and thats going to be a problem through much of the day. One indication of snow intensity is how low the visibility is. For example, allentown barely getting any snow right now so the visibility is excellent, but where the snow is coming down heavier, the visibility is reduced. Not an issue at all for northeast philadelphia in trenton. Very light snowfall there but coming down a little bit heavier in philadelphia and wilmington. Now go to south jersey where dover and Atlantic City, all reporting one mile visibility. That will likely go lower so as the snow intensifies, the visibility will get worse because of the wind is going to kick in and as crystal mentioned some very light snowfall that were expecting. It will amount to quite a bit especially in delaware and the shore, but those winds will have no problem blowing that snow around and keeping us feeling cold all day. It already feels like its in the low teens in philadelphia. 13 degrees in pottstown and 11 degrees in Atlantic City, but but during the day today those temperatures will go lower and they plummet as we head into friday and saturday and its all because of this storm thats moving through during the day today. Now a look ahead at how much snow you can expect. Crystal is standing by with that. And we have adjusted those numbers just a bit this morning. So lets run through those conditions outside and we will start with a live view in ocean city where you can see that snow is certainly starting to stick and pile up. I mentioned this a bit ago but im checking those storm reports. Already about two inches reported in mays landing and this thing has just started. So the possibility of some high totals there. Wide view to start. So this is this morning. A fairly good job of showing the extension with the steadiest snow right up against the shoreline. Now i want to show the entire region so you can compare here. The winds will be strong coming from the north and all that moisture surging in and thats giving us the snow right now. 25 degrees in philly. These numbers are not going to change much. We are going to stay cold with those windchills likely in Single Digits to teens at best. Now the deeper blue you see that extends to just about the i95 corridor, thats the heaviest snow. This is where were getting our good high totals from and this is why right around philly, weve got some snow and a good bit of snow. Thats going to be the difference with the steadiest stuff falling through by about lunchtime. Once it turns white that indicates a light snow, some spotty flurries, not as much steady action. So its going to weaken first north and west in the early afternoon. Then it will move out between 4 00 and 7 00 p. M. And its out of here by around 7 00 altogether but its so cold, this is all sticking and this is all what we are looking at. The lowest amounts north and west. The highest amounts the shore and delaware beaches so lets drop into that neighborhood level. You see its in the deepest purple, 8 to 12 inches that we are forecasting. That brushes right up against the shore as well. Not all of atlanta county, but along atlanta county. That extends through south jersey. Thats right around 4 to 8 inches and lower amounts as you get into the pennsylvania suburbs. Et willlets take a look at roads. Weve been watching this on 295 southbound. Affecting things for drivers in new jersey. Whats funny about it is that we were expecting lots of problems because of the snow. This isnt even snow related. Another additional problem that were dealing with. You can see the southbound side. This strip of red, that means its a closure. A tractor trailer fire and now they have all those southbound lanes closed right near route 48 which is exit 4 off of 295. If youre trying to get past this point theyre going to divert you beforehand. 130 is open. The new jersey turnpike is open as well. Thats another alternate for you and just a heads up, the new jersey turnpike is dealing with speed restrictions. Were also watching route 73 around route 70. Were definitely seeing some snow and tracks start to accumulate in the middle of the road there. Watching an accident too at lower marion on belmont avenue. Heated words. A former president ally is taking aim at the commander in chief and his family. How the president is now taking action against him. And a live look at south philadelphia as we continue our coverage of the winter storm. The snow has begun and will deliver snow to our ire area for most of the day. Were tracking it all for you. ,000 deaths in america last year. We need to stand up and say enough. The only way this problem is going to be solved is if we raise our voices. Well give you a live look from delaware after the break. Matt, it is a snowy scene especially at the shore. Look at cape may.
