Breaking overnight, firefighters brave the cold to save people running from a burning home in burlington tonight. Five people are hurt now including a firefighter. Matt delucia joins us live from the scene. Firefighters even rescued one person from the roof. Reporter thats right. I spoke with the fire chief. He tells me there were four people inside this house at the time. Theyve been taken to the hospital for observation and evaluation. One is a child. Let me get out of the way. This is the house. You see theres still firefighters at the scene here along union avenue. Its a threestory house. Started around 1 00 this morning. And in talking with the fire chief, he tells us this has been difficult with the cold conditions, as we have seen lately with these fires. When you have the cold weather, spraying water on the house, theyve been dealing with ice, the frigid temperatures, rotating firefighters in and out. One thing that was remarkable is that the neighbors jumped in to help as best they can. One neighbor we spoke with, a guy lives across the street. He saw what was happening, woke his wife up, and run outside to help. Take a look. Ran outside, and they were running around with ladders. I had a 30feet extension ladder in front of my house. Grabbed it and ran across the street. One of the Police Officers set it up to help, i believe it was melissa, to get off the roof. Reporter there was that one woman who was up on the roof. Again, the folks are in the hospital now. The fire chief did not have any idea what their conditions were, if it was smoke inhalation or other injuries, things of that sort. Again, firefighters dealing with Hazardous Conditions in terms of not just the fire but also the very, very cold temperatures. Police say a plainclothes officer shot dennis flouten in East Germantown wednesday night. Investigators say he tried to run over an officer and sped away and slammed into parked cars, then tried to run away again. After commanding him to show his hands, the officer shot him once in the head. The mans family said doctors told him he was shot more than once. The last shot, he tried to block it. Went through his hands, into his head. Why did you shoot this man in his head . He was unarmed. He was not dangerous. Police say plowden did not have a gun. He was initially stopped because his vehicle looked like one they were looking for in connection with a homicide. Investigators do not believe he is connected to that crime. This is the second policeinvolved shooting within two days in philadelphia. Tuesday police shot and critically wounded Basil Harrison after he robbed a deli in west philadelphia. He led police on a chase in a stolen car before crashing at 49th and walnut. Police say they opened fire after he refused to cooperate and when he reached for his waistbands. This is an unimaginable tragedy that the mayor says we can tell you, in addition to 12 People Killed, there were four people inside the building on prospect fighting for their lives at this hour. One of the People Killed just 1yearold. I want to show you video now of the thick smoke that shot out of the top floor apartment here on prospect avenue. According to fire officials, this is the fire that started on the ground floor of the building and went all the way up like a chimney. There was a desperate scramble for residents to try and get out. People were rescued from fire escapes. There were reports that someone was so desperate that they hid inside a bathtub trying to escape the flames, but to no avideo game. Again, 12 people no avail. Again, 12 people were killed, ranging in age from 50 years old down to a year old. Some from the same family. The fire commissioner addressed the media about this just hours ago. This tragedy is historic in magnitude here, and our hearts go out to every family that lost a loved one, and everyone that is fighting for their lives. Reporter again, four people fighting for their lives now. At least 15 people suffered some sort of injuries. To bring you back live to the scene, i can tell you all 25 apartments suffered some sort of damage. This is a building that is gutted. And as you can imagine, with all of the water that it took to douse the flames in this building, theres a lot of ice in this neighborhood right now. This morning, there was a large salting operation underway, trying to make it so the fire marshals and investigators can get to the scene and try to determine what caused all of this. In chester county, Phoenixville High School students leaned on each other for support last night as they gathered to remember one of their own shot and killed on wednesday night. Yeah, the District Attorney says someone killed Jason Ortiz Cameron over a little bit of weed and a little bit of greed. A friend told nbc10 ortiz cameron and a friend were planning on robbing some guys during a drug deal behind a dunkin donuts, but the 15yearold ended up getting shot. Violence is never the answer, especially this type of violence where someone ends up dead. Somebody who was so young. Investigators are now looking for this car, and three to four people who were involved in the confrontation prior to the shooting. The d. A.
