Mcconnell was so touched, his neck pouch blushed. [ laughter ] [ applause ] thats right. The Senate Passed the republican tax bill late last night in a 5148 vote. Look how happy paul ryan is. He looks like a guy on law and order whose case gets thrown out on a technicality. They couldnt prove it was her bones. [ light laughter ] people online have begun suggesting that the logo for the 2018 world chess championship resembles people engaged in a sex position. [ laughter ] resembles . Before we get to that, republicans passed a sweeping overhaul of the tax code that will overwhelming benefit corporations and the wealthy, amounting to nothing les than a brazen heist of the country. For more on this, its time for a closer look. [ cheers and applause ] seth President Trump keeps insisting, despite all evidence to the contrary, that this tax bill will not be a boon to the richest americans. In fact, in the spirit of the holiday season, he keeps calling it a Christmas Gift to the middle class. This is going to be one of the great gifts to the middle income people of this country that theyve ever gotten for christmas. It will be the greatest Christmas Present that a lot of people have ever received. Were now one huge step closer to delivering to the American People the historic tax relief as a giant present for christmas. Remember i said were bringing christmas back . Christmas is back. [ cheers ] bigger and better than ever before. Were bringing christmas back. Seth it almost sounds like he was about to start singing. [ light laughter ] like hes doing a weird al cover of a Justin Timberlake song. Im bringing christmas back. Them other holidays are super whack. [ light laughter ] also christmas didnt go anywhere. Were all up to our necks in christmas. Every tv show has a christmas episode. Every commercial has a christmas song. Theres a 70 foot tree outside my Office Window and every barista in town is wearing antlers. If you want to bring Something Back try kwanzaa. That thing straight up disappeared. [ light laughter ] of course virtually every reputable study of the tax bill says that corporations and the wealthy will benefit far more than anyone else. For one thing, the Corporate Tax cuts are permanent, while the individual tax cuts expire, which means that by 2027 more than 80 of the plans benefits go to the top 1 , while 53 of taxpayers will see a tax hike. And if you just look at next year, the plans benefits are very heavily skewed towards the wealthy. Middle income taxpayers would pay about 900 less, where the highestincome 1 of households would get an average tax cut of roughly 50,000. Heres what that means in real terms. For middle income people. An extra 900 would pay for about seven months of gas. By contrast, those in the top 1 could pick up a nice Mercedes Cclass coupe with their 50,000plus average tax cut. So to recap if youre rich, youre getting a car for christmas and if youre not, go ahead and wrap up a can of gas. [ light laughter ] of course, republicans [ applause ] im gonna set this next to the fire and open it later. [ laughter ] of course, republicans cant point to any actual proof their plan would benefit lower and middle income, people so all they can do is repeat vague talking points about improving the economy. For example, ivanka trump, the president s daughter and advisor, tweeted this week, the entrepreneurial spirit that built the American Economy is alive and well under President Trumps leadership. With tax reform, Small Business and working families will thrive like never before. Prompting a response from her father, who wrote, so true, ivanka. Man, thats got to suck for eric and don jr. They tweet about their dad all the time and all they ever get is a broken upside down heart. [ light laughter ] whats the button for hate them . And yet despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, trump has repeatedly claimed not just that the wealthy in general would be hurt by the bill, but that he personally would pay more in taxes than he did before. Were also going to eliminate tax breaks and complex loopholes taken advantage of by the wealthy. Who are they . I dont know. [ light laughter ] i think my accountants are going crazy right now. Its all right. Hey look, im president. I dont care. I dont care anymore. I dont care. Seth oh we definitely believe that you dont care. [ laughter ] youre by far our most checkedout president. [ applause ] i mean, James Garfield worked harder than you after he was assassinated. [ light laughter ] you watch more tv than a sixth grader at home with the flu. Trump watches so much tv were like a week away from him tweeting about the price is right. [ light laughter ] plinko is obviously rigged and the wheel is fake news. I guess the price is wrong. Sad. [ applause ] now obviously, you cant know exactly how trump would benefit from this bill since he still refuses to release his tax returns. But we do know there are lots of changes that would impact him directly. For one thing, republicans lowered the top income tax bracket. There are also tax breaks for socalled passthrough businesses which includes the trump organization. There was even a lastminute provision added that specifically extends a new tax break for passthrough businesses to real estate investors. In fact, the bill has so many complicated tax breaks and giveaways, republicans are trying to argue that average americans would benefit from those tax breaks by really stretching the meaning of the word average. Take this tweet yesterday from texas senator john cornyn. Cornyn wrote, under the tax cuts and jobs act, a married couple earning 100,000 per year, 60,000 from wages, 25,000 from their noncorporate business, and 15,000 in business income, will receive a tax cut of 2,603. 50, a reduction of nearly 24 . Yeah, you know, that average American Family that has two kids, a house, a white picket fence, corporate income, noncorporate business income, three limited liability corporations, two s corporations, two c corporations. A commercial real estate venture, a limited liability partnership, carried interest, oh, and a dog. [ laughter ] [ applause ] average. You know, average. In fact, this bill doesnt even deliver on the flimsy pretext republicans initially gave for their tax plan simplifying the tax code. For example, the plan keeps seven different tax brackets rather than the three the republicans initially proposed. Former gop president ial candidate herman cain, who proposed his own tax code simplification plan called the nine, nine, nine plan was asked about that failure on fox news and didnt seem too troubled. Your plan had nine, nine, nine. This one still has seven brackets. It may not be as simple as you wanted, but is it a big win for republicans . Its not nine, nine, nine, but its fine, fine, fine. Seth look how happy herman cain is. Look how happy herman cain is. He cant believe they set him up for a rhyme. His public life is done. [ light laughter ] now hell just disappear, never to be seen again. No, herman, dont go. What will we do without you . Dont worry, youll be fine, fine, fine. [ light laughter ] seth and on top [ applause ] of everything else, this bill also adds nearly 1. 5 trillion to the deficit after years of gop hysteria about government spending. And republicans are already being very open about the fact that theyre going to use the deficits they created as an excuse to cut social security, medicare, and medicaid under the guise of socalled welfare reform. Last week, House Speaker paul ryan, a father of three, was asked about paying for those programs and said the problem wasnt that republicans are giving away billions to corporations and the wealthy, but that people arent having enough babies. The great thing about tax reform coming right now is were going to be able to create the kind of economy that produces good, family supporting jobs, higher wages, that will be there for people who are stuck in poverty and welfare to go to. This is going to be the new economic challenge for america people. Baby boomers are retiring. I did my part, but but, you know, we need to have higher birthrates in this country. Seth im sorry. You did you your part . You know who might have something to say about that . Your wife. If i had turned to my wife right after my son was born and said, well, i did my part, im pretty sure she wouldve picked me up and broke me over her knee like bane. [ laughter and applause ] it tells you everything you need to know about the trump era that this is how 2017 is ending, with republicans ransacking the country, taking healthcare away from millions and then telling women that the solution is for them to have more babies. Working and middle class people overwhelmingly dislike this bill. Meanwhile, corporations and the wealthy are looking at it and saying its fine, fine, fine. Fred yes, im developing something where im cooking with you know that prehistoric amber, you know when theres like a like a mosquito . Seth sure. I think famously in jurassic park. Fred yeah, yeah. Seth yeah. Fred so working with that amber, its actually a very its a really theres a nice flavor to it. [ laughter ] its a sort of its almost like rock. [ laughter ] you know . Like a sort of molten rock. So you melt it down and you flambe garlic in it and some oils. Seth so im sorry. This sounds like then its just the one recipe . [ laughter ] fred its the one recipe. Seth in the whole, entire cookbook . Fred and just you know, for dessert you put some corn flakes on it. [ laughter ] and its just really nice to cook with. Its very expensive. Im jealous. Sometimes all i want to do is head west on 20, in a car i cant afford, with a plan i dont have. Just me, my music and the road. Id like that, too. Thanks so much. Seth for those who havent seen, this is one of the great stunt driving films of the modern era. And is it true that you did some of the stunt driving . Yeah, i did all no, i did some of it. [ light laughter ] they didnt let me do that much stunt driving. Seth so what would they let you do, like, Parallel Park . [ laughter ] no, they did not definitely did not let me Parallel Park. Just regular parking. The problem so i did like ten stunt driving classes. And i actually learned how to drive like most of the stuff. Seth oh, well so so this is before the movie started, you put the work in. I put the work in. Seth yeah, okay. I wanted to know how to drive like baby. Seth yeah. But then when i actually got on set, i was like, okay, what are we doing . What are we doing . They said, youre not doing anything. [ laughter ] we got jamie foxx in the car and jon hamm in the car, youre not doing anything. Seth right. You know what i mean . And then when jamie foxx and jon hamm werent in the car then they let me do stuff. Seth oh, interesting. Yeah. Seth so they didnt want to risk the whole cast . [ laughter ] yeah, just me. Seth just part of it, yeah. Yeah. Seth and well it certainly paid off. You actually kept the car, is this true . cause i dont think ive never heard of this. I feel like in the fast and furious movies, they dont get to keep the cars. Really . You dont think vin diesel has a garage of like, a hundred of the fast and furious cars . Seth of course he does. I dont know what im thinking. Totally does. Seth of course he does. Oh, no i saw vin diesel on the bus. Yeah. I dont think [ laughter ] so you got to keep your car. Yes. Seth what kind of car is it . Its a subaru wrx sti. Its the one from the opening scene. Seth gotcha. And i just kept begging for them to let me have it. Then i said, ill buy it. Ill do whatever. And i just kept following up and emailing. Thats how if you want something in life, you just keep following up. Seth yeah. [ laughter ] go get em. Yeah. Seth yeah. I kept emailing the producers and saying, hey, how about that car . You know, im willing to pay for it. Let me get that car. And then months later, when it was my birthday, about six months later, they gave it to me. Seth you wore them down. Congratulations. Yeah, exactly. Seth thats really nice. Persevere. [ cheers and applause ] seth now, so that for fans of the film, it must be an interesting thing to see you in the car from the movie. Yes. Seth i mean, you know, you dont see Christian Bale in the batmobile. [ light laughter ] no. Seth but now my other question is do people also has anybody picked up on calling you baby yet . Because that is obviously a unique name for a main character in the film. Yeah, its a little odd because people do call me baby now. Seth uhhuh. Theres this deli around the corner of my house in brooklyn. And the guys are nice and they were always nice to me for the first two years that ive lived there and gone in there. But now, i walk in there and this dude from yemen is like, hey, baby. [ laughter ] what do you want . You want the halal over rice, man . You know . Hey baby, come on. Make a halal over rice for baby. [ laughter ] seth nothing would make me happier than if you found out hes never seen the film. [ laughter ] but after [ cheers and applause ] basically, like, hey, you know, anyone it turns out anyone that goes there for two years, he just feels comfortable enough with them to finally start calling them baby. Yeah, man. Could be. Seth jamie foxx, one of your cast members cast mates of the show uh, film. He would deejay on set. This film is so tied to music. But he would actually dj in between takes. Is that when he would do it . Yeah. So jamie does deejay. And he wouldnt have turntables on set. But he would connect his boom box to his phone and Start Playing music between takes. And the whole crew loved it, especially on like late night shoots. It would be 4 00 a. M. And people are tired and it keeps the energy up. Seth and hes good at it . Hes a good dj. Hes great. And he also you know, he sort of ad libs too. Seth uhhuh. He does like the, yeah, come on [ laughter ] seth oh right. Hes his own hype man. Yeah, he hypes up the whole crew. It was really fun. So then i figure, like, that was a great thing to do on the set. And the next movie i did after baby driver was this movie called jonathan. Seth uhhuh. And the first day we were in a bar so i actually found like these turntables and a cord to plug my phone in. And i figured it would have a great sound system. And i thought, what would be the fun song to play for the crew . And this is a morning shoot, so its a little early, about 6 00 a. M. Seth yeah. And i decided to play haddaway, what is love . You know . What is love seth yeah sure. Baby dont so i plugged that in, and i didnt quite the sound down right away. And it blasted what is love and the whole crew starts looking seth yeah. [ laughter ] whats going on . The first a. D. Is like, wheres that music coming from . Wheres that music coming from . [ laughter ] seth yeah. I was like, oh, its me. Its me. Theyre like, can you turn that off . [ laughter ] and i was like, im not jamie foxx. Seth i think, yeah, in general, for people like you and i, dont ever try to do the things that jamie foxx is good at. No. Seth yeah. I mean, i try. Seth yeah. I will continue to try to do everything jamie foxx does. Seth hey, you gave six months. You got that car. Keep at this too. Yeah. Seth you know . Im doing to deejay on every set im on. Eventually it will work. Seth edgar wright, the fantastic director for this film, writer of this film. He was saying when he was here, that because hes british, he was using terms like bonnet and boot to describe trunk and the hood, i guess, would be the bonnet. Yeah. Seth and was that hard having doing a car film with somebody who was using these nonsense words . [ laughter ] yeah, i didnt really know what he saying. Yeah, the bonnet and the boot, you know, baby driver. Seth thats a very good edgar. Thats a very good edgar wright. And then people would sort of say, i dont know about that. At first i think i sort of would say to edgar, im not sure about that word. Like fuzz. Seth oh yeah. Like, fuzz describes americans in the audience, is fuzz a word that describes cops . Have you ever heard that . Seth like, yeah. I mean barely. Okay, all right. Thats a mild applause. Seth its certainly not so i said, i dont know about fuzz. You know, i had people say, the popo, the fiveo. You know, Something Like that. And jon hamm was like, no, no fuzz is definielty a word. [ light laughter ] and i was like, jon youre just this is me. Im sorry jon. But jon youre so old that you think that american english is still british english. [ laughter ] youre colonial times, jon. Seth very that was mean. Im sorry jon hamm. Seth very unkind to jon hamm. So your whole the whole film baby is pretty much wearing headphones. And the film the action to the film is synched up to this wonderful soundtrack. What were you hearing . Were you actually hearing music while you were doing the scenes . Always. Seth wow. Yes. That was a big part of it. We always had the music, whatever the audience heard, we were hearing. Not just me, the whole cast because we all sort of had to be somewhat in sync. Seth yeah. Yeah. Seth did that i have to ask though, because, you know, for people whoever worked on a movie set, you know you have to do things over and over and over again. Did those songs i mean, when you hear them now, are you so sick of them . No. They sort of spring me back into action. Seth oh, gotcha. [ light laughter ] i feel like im back on set or something. Seth you also make music . Yeah, i do. I have an e. P. Coming out. I have single coming out in january. Seth thats really exciting. Whats the is it just you or do you have a band . That they eat only acorns, the pigs. Seth oh, wow. And its such a delicious ham. And we had a country ham from the Loveless Motel down in nashville. Seth oh, my god. Have you ever had that . Seth no. Oh, the best. And we had a pat lafrieda ham. Seth thats fantastic. So and they were all cooked differently. And they were all gone. I dont even have a ham bone. I dont know who took the bones. Seth you didnt [ light laughter ] i want the bones. Seth those ungrateful s. O. Bs didnt even leave you the ham bone . [ light laughter ] how many how many cookies were at your party . We did i think my granddaughter told me it was 1,001 cookies that we made. Seth wow. And look how cute they are. Seth theyre really nice. Yeah, theyre really cute. Seth now be honest. If youre going to a Holiday Party are you supposed to bring something and whats a good thing to bring . Well, you dont have to take anything. But because my house i mean you should see my front hall. Seth yeah. Its like like so many presents. And im kind of embarrassed because i dont need anything. Seth yeah. Well, thats the thing. I would you know. Seth i would feel so much pressure trying to think of what does Martha Stewart need [ light laughter ] that she didnt go out and get herself. No, no. I dont get things. Im not like that. Im not i dont have to get things. Seth yeah, they just show up. Yeah. [ laughter and applause ] seth but i dont want to say that youre just sitting here being inactive and things are showing up. Because you did something that i would not do and im so impressed. You plow your own driveway. I do. I have a four mile driveway. Seth yeah. I mean really, truly. I live on a farm, so theres four miles of roads. And i actually love its like flying an airplane. When you get into a truck with a plow, you cant think of anything else because, you know, cant go off the road. You cant hit the stakes and you dont want to hit anything. Seth so youre dialed in. Im dialed in, and i just plow for like four hours it takes to do seth no it does. Because you have to go one way and then you have to come back the other way. Seth so two hours each way. Yes. [ light laughter ] seth but you got stuck. This is an instagram. I did. Seth you said, i went to plow, and i got stuck. And then i had to get pulled out by the kawasaki or whatever we had. We have a line of like hundred people hundred meters of people waiting to get in. And then we decided to why not like sending the concept to, like, different location . And yeah, this year its like 51 locations. Seth thats very exciting. Like china and brazil. Seth and these are holidaythemed cocktails with very inspired names. Yeah. So we chose the name. So thats going to be like, theres going to be a pumpkin spice. Seth okay. The rice we infuse rye whiskey with pumpkin spice. We would then do together a budweiser marshmallow syrup. Seth budweiser marshmallow syrup. Excellent. The point is like [ laughter ] lets not do that. Like the point is like to take the budweiser, were gonna simmer it a little bit. To lose the alcohol and lose the bubbles. You guys going to help me . Seth what is budweiser without alcohol and bubbles . Its just water, right . [ laughter ] you have the malt. You have the malt. Seth the malt. Oh, wow. Thats the best part. Okay. So im going to put the budweiser here. Seth okay. You can help me. You have the fluff. The the marshmallow. Seth yeah the marshmallow fluff. Great. I put the sugar here. The and if you can put the pumpkin . Martha me . Seth yes. Or put it there. Seth you dont just get to stand here and do nothing. Martha all right. Okay. I feel like i got the harder of the two. This is like [ laughter ] no, the hardest is the after seth okay great. All right. Martha now what about that sugar . And we put the sugar. Martha all that . Yeah, all of that. Its a very, very, very sweet sugar. [ audience ohs ] a lot of that. Martha brown sugar. And a lot of calories. A lot of calories. Seth oh, this is fantastic. And then we mix all that. Martha should i just mix for you . Yeah. It like its going to heat so the point of the you have the marshmallows wont dissolve. The point of that is to dissolve the sugar. Seth uhhuh. When its cold after like 30 minutes simmering, you blend it. Seth uhhuh. You blend together and then you filter it and thats it. Seth all right. But luckily for tonight were not gonna wait like 30 minutes. We have seth great. Martha okay, we have this made already. We have all this made syrup already. Seth we have to try it. Martha you have to turn it off, because otherwise its going to be bubble. And its going to be everywhere. Seth he knows what hes doing. [ laughter ] so what were gonna do right now what were gonna do right now, is like were gonna make the whole everyones gonna make his own cocktail. Seth oh, good. Its tricky. Its tricky. Because were going to make a flip. And the flip involve a whole egg. Seth okay. Great. And if you put the whole egg, or like, egg white, it involve a dry shake. It means a shake without ice. Seth okay. So lets do it. Seth all right, great. So we all take one of these. You take the shaker. Seth okay. Take the jigger. Seth okay. Were going to put an ounce and a half of that budweiser marshmallow syrup. Seth okay. So you put it you see the line here . Seth yep. Thats the ounce there. Seth all right. Oh, right, i have my own.
