Overnight we learned the train was going more than double the speed limit when it crashed. The ntsb says the data recorder shows the train was going 80 Miles Per Hour in a 30 mileanhour zone. The train left the tracks, nosedived off the overparks and landed on a busy overpass, and landed on a busy highway below. Many worked together to rescue riders trapped in the trancars. Amtrak said train cars. Amtrak said the train was on refurbished tracks designed for faster trips. In philadelphia, eight people were killed in 2015 when an amtrak train traveling from washington, d. A few weeks ago, near 11th and spruce at center city, a 24yearold was hit and killed while riding her bike. And this morning, philadelphia bicyclists will again call for the city to make their safety a priority. They point to two recent incidents where trucks hit riders in center city. One woman is in the hospital. The other died. The city has restriped lanes and announced safety measures. Riders say more needs to be done.
