I dont remember sobbing, even though i did know people who were in the building. It takes a while for it to really set in. Reporter erin and keith, its tight in these quarters in lower manhattan. Thats because you do have a heavy Police Presence thats been blocking off, i would say, five to ten blocks in the vicinity of this attack. And so thats why we have been pushed back here. Traffic has been backed up at this light. A few times today fire trucks were trying to get through, obviously trying to respond to calls in the neighborhood. Had a little bit of difficulty. Police have been in the crosswalks trying to keep people moving to make sure traffic proceeds in a somewhat normal manner through this afternoon. There was a scare at the jersey shore, especially considering what just happened in new york. Tonight a man is recovering after his truck crashed into a part of atlantic citys boardwalk. Flipped the van onto its side and got wedged between a ramp and a building. Many people were on edge when they saw the officers and emergency crews running to the scene. Jersey shore Bureau ReporterTed Greenberg talks to us live. You talked to a man who was almost hit by the truck . Reporter it was a close call. The pickup came speeding down the street and crashed right here. It went partially up this ramp, leaving quite a bit of damage behind. Police tell me there is no sign this was done on purpose, but for some that scenario immediately came to mind. Reporter a smashed pickup truck flipped on its side, wedged between a boardwalk ramp and building in atlantic city. A surveillance camera capturing the moment of impact, debris flying into the air. It was definitely a wild scene. Especially after the new york scene. Reporter immediately thinking of the truck attack in manhattan six hours earlier. I was panicked. Reporter he was inside the red car seen in the video when he says the pickup came a few inches from hitting him as it sped down the beach block of Martin Luther king boulevard around 9 00 last night. I had to move. Had not i moved, trust me, i was in for a tough one. Reporter the pickup truck taking out a light pole. Fire hydrant and sideswiping another car before ripping down guard railings on the ramp and rolling off. The driver, a 55yearold man trapped in the mangled truck. Firefighters had to cut him out of the truck. It was a difficult operation to extricate the victim. Reporter police trying to figure out what led to the crash but say at this time there is no indication that it was intentional. Still, after the new york attack, acs fire chief tells me initially he too feared the worst. When you hear a vehicle speeding down beach block towards the boardwalk it does cross your mind. Police are working to determine if road rage led to a murder in allentown. Witnesses tell nbc10 two men were arguing near south ninth and wyoming streets earlier today. The frontal boundary is bisecting the area, and the winds are going to be out of the southwest. They will be warming us upment watch the direction of the winds into tomorrow morning and into tomorrow afternoon. It doesnt change. That is a good wind for us as far as warm weather, coming out of the southwest, boosting us into the 70s. Tomorrow, 73. 74, friday, and then back to the 60s for saturday, sunday and monday. A decision by new Jersey Appeals Court could change the way future marijuana cases are prosecuted in the state. In a two to one decision the Court Ordered the division of Consumer Affairs to consider changing the class ni kapgs ifi the drug. The state cited the states medical Marijuana Program as the reason for its decision. It is happening more and more. Officers and First Responders are seeing deadly drugs added to heroin to make it stronger. These additives can cause an accidental overdose and even death just by inhaling or touching it. Today the Delaware CountyDrug Task Force unveiled a handheld machine that can test and identify drugs just by pointing it at them. This laser technology, without opening the container, without exposing the officer or the first responder, can actually tell us what is inside the container without ever opening it. Bomb squads can also use the machine to test chemicals. A commission launched by President Trump releases new recommendations to handle the nations opioid crisis. They are calling for more drug courts, additional training for doctors and penalties for insurers that avoid coverage for addiction treatment. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is the head of that commission. We are working to learn what caused a crash between a septa trolley and a school bus in southwest philadelphia. 12 people were hurt this morning on woodland avenue and 57th street. Luckily, no children were on that bus. A local Police Department is making sure that more than 100 con confiscated guns dont fall into the wrong hands. In upper darby, 125 guns will be destroyed. The 432 long guns and 82 pistols will be taken to the trash and steam plant where they will be burned down. Officials say each of the weapons had been used in a crime and todays gun burn is part of hir effort their effort to reduce gun violence. We are not auctioning them off, were not looking to supplement our budget by selling them to gun dealers. Theyre going to be destroyed. And thats the end of it. Chief chitwood estimates theyve destroyed 400 or 500 guns through these gun burns in the last decade. You know what that music means. Now there is a new weapon for the eagles. Also here, members of team usa as we are now officially 100 days away from the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Three truck loads of fresh snow form a miniature half pipe in the middle of manhattan as the today show and team usa kick off the 100day countdown. Nbc10 caught up with our local athletes like the bobsledder who grew up in newtown, bucks county and loves going home to share they are bronze medal from sochi. It meant so much to go back and share my journey with them. My teachers and everyone who made a difference in my life. I hope to continue to inspire people. Reporter this year in south korea she will be driving for gold. On the curling sheet, the anderson sisters are hoping to qualify for their first games. Twins born just a minute apart. Its fun to be able to compete with my sister. Builtin practice buddies since weve been 5 years old. Reporter they learned to curl at the philadelphia curling club. Once it was clear they had talent the family moved to minneapolis to launch their careers. Competing at the olympic stage is amazing. Its a dream of ours. Its really cool to get this opportunity. Reporter some of these athletes have already qualified for the olympics. Others will have trials over the coming weeks. I talked to all of them, that she would go from jumping rope to sliding down a track and winning an olympic bronze medal in sochi. I spent the day with her two months ago in lake placid. Most of the training for bobsled is in the weight room. She lifts weights ill never dream to lift. Well follow her path as she goes for gold. She is impressive. The company promised to pay but for three months she waited and waited until she contacted Harry Hairston at nbc10 responds. Enough of the waiting she said. This viewer said she made nearly two dozen phone calls looking for her money and not one of the calls were returned. Months after her move lisa jackson is still unpacking, unwrapping and putting everything into its place. On june 5th i had to move from the city of chester to chester township. Jackson says the movers, two men and a truck, did a fine job, except for one problem. They broke my carpet cleaner. She had the movers fill out a damage report to get reimbursed. They said a manager would be in touch with me. She tells us the call never came and over a threemonth period she called more than a dozen times. I believe i called at least 20 times. Three months after her first call she decided to reach out to nbc10 responds. From the time that i submitted my complaint to nbc10, it was no less than a week i got my check in the mail. The company sent her a check for 125. Damages happen the owner of two men and a truck franchise that moved Jackson Furniture tells us sometimes a busy schedule might leave some calls unreturned for a while. But his company went above and beyond, giving jackson more money than required by law. When you book a move with either state or federal law, 60 cents per pound per article. Thats after the item is depreciated. The owner says he tries to issue checks for damage within 60 days but the government gives him more time. He did take longer than 60 days to pay, but he did pay within the time allowed by the government. Federal law gives us 120 days to get back to the smer custome rectify the problem. I have my money. I can finally relax now. You guys helped an awful lot. The biggest takeaway, folks, movers only have to pay you 60 cents per pound of your damaged item. Not the full replacement cost. If you want the full replacement cost, you can buy more protection from the mover or another insurer. She did a great job, too, of actually writing down every item. Kept everything.
