Firefighters spent hours trying to get the flames under control. We have more live. Deanna, that restaurants been in the community for decades. Reporter it has. The owners were here watching the place burn, talking about how they had a big weekend planned. You see the brick building with all the windows. The smoke, that is active fire. Firefighters saying too dangerous to be inside. Had to get out right away. When they got here after 1 00 this morning. You see six to seven on the roof of a nearby building shooting down water. Youve got three hoses in the air with firefighters trying to get to this fire from above it. There have been about 11 evacuations in the area, people hoping the fire hasnt spread to nearby condos and apartments. The fire commissioner says thats not been the case. However, theres a dog groomer nearby, red paw relief, tweeting that two dogs died. Other animals have been taken out and taken to the vet. Look at the video we shot just before 3 00 in the morning. Flames were coming from the side of the building. We were told by the commissioner that the fire came in before 1 00 this morning. It was unclear how many people were inside the restaurant. Fire started in the basement. Firefighters went in right away, they began trying to put out the fire. It spread too quickly, became too dangerous. They had to get outside. This area at 3rd and south is going to be a mess and shut down for quite some time. We did catch one witnesses who saw the catch up with witness whos saw the flames firsthand when they got here. I was driving around, so i just left a customer i see the smoke. I was driving, and i parked my cab. I come here, i see the smoke on the first floor, and then i put my head up and see the smoke coming from the third floor, second floor. Thank god the fire firemen came on time. Thank god nobody hurt. Reporter at the edge of bridg bridget foys, firefighters were shooting water into the attic window. It shows how quickly the fire spread, how intense it was, coming from the basement up to the attic. The commissioner says its still an ongoing fire. This area again, if youre going to be heading out to south philly, society hill area, it is shut down as firefighters try and get the fire out. In philadelphia three people are recovering from gunshot wounds. Police have arrested the gunman in the fairhill neighborhood. The gunman shot a man and woman at b and allegheny street around 2 00 this morning. He drove off, crashed his car a few blocks away. Husband and wife saw him get out, told him they were calling 911. Police say the man shot the husband in the head. The wife called police who found the gunman down the street and took him into custody. Rosemary . An escaped suspect is on the run. Investigators say the search to track him down led police to discover a large heroin operation at a house in north philadelphia. Let me explain. This started with the shooting of a man. Police arrested the suspected gunman and getaway driver. The driver, 19yearold lamiq condi, managed to escape. While looking for him, detectives say they stumbled upon hundreds of thousands of dollars in drugs and weapons. Another man left the shooting that ran from the shooting that left two 16yearold boys dead before 9 00 last night. Investigators say one of the men who fled fired the gun. Neighbors tell us there was an argument just before the shooting. Happening today, more new Jersey National guard soldiers will deploy to puerto rico. This is from the support battali battalion. Theyll join nearly 150 guards men and women on the island. Nearly 16 new Jersey State Police officers are also there. On capitol hill, the Senate Approved a 36 billion aid package to help puerto rico recover. The president says he will sign it. The Trump Administration is expected to request another aid package soon. It would make the third one in recent weeks. Students in Camden County have several expected unexpected days after several unexpected days off after a fire at Winslow Elementary School number one. It left a significant bit of smoke damage. The school will be closed today, tomorrow, and friday. Officials say it will reopen on monday. One of philadelphias oldest and most active rec centers has been gated off, a vacant building, for nearly a week now. Were learning that the Recreation Center could open in as little as four weeks. Structural problems forced the city to close the building last week. The installation of a temporarily bracing system would allow programs to continue on the first floor. A total repair to the center could cost millions. 4 07. The hunt is on for two masked men and a stolen car at dolphin and van pelton streets. The masked men broke into a home around 10 00 last night while a mother, her boyfriend, and two kids were home. The men took the boyfriends car keys, stole the car. No one was hurt. Former District Attorney general Seth Williams who used to put criminals behind bars as phillys top cop will spend the next five years in prison himself, serving time for a corruption charge. Yesterday the judge who sentenced williams told the courtroom he humiliated his office and sold it to parasites. Even williams said rather than holding myself to a higher standard, i squandered that trust placed in me. Williams admitted to using his position to help friends and others who gave his gifts and admitted to defrauding a nursing home, stealing money meant to pay for his mothers care. Williams entered a guilty plea in june and has been held at the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center since then. The two candidates vying for williams old seat will hold another debate. This happened after last nights debate in south philadelphia. Democrat Larry Krasner talked about bringing down the high incarceration rate. Republican beth gross may promised a tougher crackdown on crime.
