People had to jump from windows and wait for help on rooftops as flames tore through a home in north philadelphia. This happened last night. Two Police Officers suffered smoke inhalation and so did a little boy who darted into this house with hopes of saving his cousin. Nbc 10s Randy Gyllenhaal is live for us in north philadelphia. Randy, tell us what happened. Well, running into the flames, trying to save lives, sends a 13yearold boy and two philadelphia Police Officers here to temple hospital overnight. The good news, all of them expected to survive after running back into the flames. This fire broke out on sixth street, in a north Philadelphia Row home. Some of the People Living there jumped out of the windows to escape. Others, were told, ran on to neighbors rooftops. And during the heat of this fire, a 13yearold boy and his brother ran back into the burning house, thinking that their cousins were trapped upstairs on the third floor. Two philadelphia Police Officers followed them, looking to help. And all of them suffered some smoke inhalation and other injuries. We talked to that 13yearold who ran back into the fire. Take a listen. Our neighbors came out with the fire extinguishers and everything and they started putting out the fire. We thought my little cousin was in there. Thats all he had on his mind. I didnt know what he was talking about. I was taking a shower. When i came outside, i saw all the neighbors screaming, gena, gena, your son is in the house. Turns out those cousins that they were looking for were already safely evacuated from the home. Meantime, the investigation into what spark thed this fire continues. No word on the cause. Everyone recovering here at temple expected to survive. Were certainly glad to hear that. Thank you, randy. In philadelphia, a woman has lost her husband and two Young Children have lost their father after a murder in the city Spring Garden neighborhood. The 38yearold victim had just got, out of hten out of his car street when two men came up, stole his wallet and shot him in the face. The mans 2yearold daughter was still in the backseat of the car. Investigators are looking for two people in their late teens or early 20s. Now to some breaking news in mexico. Overnight, a magnitude 8. 2 earthquake struck off the coast, right near the state of chipas. People nearly 600 miles away could feel the quake. Residents immediately fled their buildings, many in their pajamas. Neighborhoods are without electricity. Least five people are dead. Tsunami waves in the wake of this earthquake could reach 9 or 10 feet high. And now to Hurricane Irma. It has weakened to a category 4 storm. A little bit of good news, it is still packing a big punch, though. Parts of south florida and the keys are under a hurricane warning as irma heads for the miami area. The storm continues to plow through the caribbean. It pounded turks and caicos last night and early this morning. And up next, irma will take aim at cuba and then the bahamas before forecasters expect it to turn. Florida should start feeling the effects of irma tomorrow night. For wind started howling on turks and caicos last night. Videos posted on social media show those powerful winds and driving rain hitting resort P T Properties on the western side of the islands. Irma has been barreling through the western caribbean killing at least 12 paeople. It ripped through barbuda, at first killing a 2yearold there and leaving most of the island uninhabitable. The storm flattened buildings in st. Martin and left the island with no power and no running water. Raging winds tore down power lines and trees in puerto rico leaving a Million People there without power. Now another major hurricane, jose, is moving the same way through the caribbean. In south florida, people are racing to get out of the hurricanes path. Flyings out of town are hard to come by at Miami International. Leaving by car means being stuck in traffic jams and waiting in long lines to get gas. People staying put are boarding up their homes. Crews have already covered up the windows at president trumps maralago resort in palm beach. Heres another look at the drivers stuck in those traffic jams and the gas lainines. Many are heeding the warning to get out of dodge before Hurricane Irma hits. This is on ft. Pierce on florida east atlantic coast, about 65 miles north of west palm beach. Meanwhile, the rush to leave apparently led to a shooting at Miami International airport. Police shot a man with a knife, who somehow got on to the tarmac. The man was taken to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. And helping hands from our area are heading to florida. 130 soldiers from the new Jersey Army National guard loaded up equipment yesterday. Theyre being deployed today to southeast florida. Hurricane warnings have been issued for south florida and the keys for a direct hit, expected over the weekend. Right now, irma is marching through the caribbean. The storm has killed at least 12 people so far and devastated islands in the eeastern caribbean. Irma is now a category 4 with 55mileperhour winds. Were watching a Legal Development related to damage from hurricane harvey. First responders in texas have filed a lawsuit against a Chemical Company that has its u. S. Headquarters in our area, in king of prussia. Take a look. This is one of the massive fires that happened at the arkema Chemical Plant in crawford, texas, following harvey. The lawsuit claims that First Responders were not fully informed of the potential risks and that they suffered serious injuries. Theyre suing for at least 1 million. In a statement, arkema says, we reject any suggestion that we failed to warn of the danger of breathing the smoke from the fires a our site or that we ever misled anyone. Dumped in a park and left for dead. This morning, two dogs are in the care of vets and a 7,000 reward is being offered to find whoever abused these animals. Someone passing by found the dogs, gracie and leyla, starved and beaten at penns pines park in upper darby. Theyre now undergoing treatment atta artar aardvark animal hosp. Leyla is improving well, but gracie is still touch and go. It will be at least two more days, three more days, before we know if shes going to make it. She was in the worst condition ive ever seen. They both had wounds all over their face and their neck, which are classic for fight wounds. A humane officer investigating the case believe the animals could have been part of a dogfighting ring and thats something sthoauthorities are n looking into. The lawsuit over median parking on broad street in south philly is over, for now. A judge threw out the lawsuit yesterday. A group of neighbors called the fifth square filed the suit. They argued that the longrunning practice of parking right in the median along broad street is not safe. The group tells nbc 10 they are now reviewing other legal options.
