A father is gunned down in front of his 2yearold daughter, despite giving into the demands of robbers. This all happened right outside of his house in the Spring Garden section of philadelphia. Now police are trying to track down the men who attacked and killed the father. Nbc 10s matt delucia joins us live from Police Headquarters to explain how this all unfolded. Matt, fill us in. Reporter the two men who did this are still on the run this morning and philly Police Believe this was a robbery, but theyre not sure why these two men then proceeded to shoot this father in the face. Right in front of his daughter. This 38yearold man had just parked his car, just gotten out of it right in front of his house on melon street in Spring Garden. What police know is those two men came up to him, stole his wallet, and for whatever reason, shot him in the face and then ran. Police picked him and took him to hahnemann where he then died. There were several witnesses. But whats worse, the victims 3yearold daughter was right there in the backseat with the familys dog. But neighbors say the victims wife had just given birth to another daughter. They say this murder was recorded on camera. And the two men that police are lacking for right now are in their late teens or early 20s wearing dark shirts or dark hooded sweatshirts. They are still on the run this morning. For now, live outside Police Headquarters, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. Thank you for that report. A north philadelphia house fire sent officethree to the ho. It happened on north sixth street overnight. Some people inside the home had to jump from a window to escape the fire and even waited for help on a neighbors roof. All three should be okay. Investigators say the fire is suspicious. Meanwhile, parts of south florida and the keys are now under a hurricane warning, as irma heads for the miami area. And right now, the monster storm is plowing through the caribbean, pounding the turks and caicos. Irma will take aim at cuba next. You can see it right there on the map, then the bahamas, and right after that forecast expect the hurricane to make a turn. Were talking about florida. Florida will begin to feel the effects of irma tomorrow night. Those winds started howling on turks and caicos last night. Videos posted on social media like this one show the powerful winds and driving rain hitting resort properties on the western side of the island. Irma has been on a tear through the Eastern Caribbean for the last two days, killing at least 12 people so far. It ripped through barbuda first, killing a 2yearold child and leaving most of the island uninhabitable. The storm flattened buildings in st. Martin, leaving that island with no power or running water. Raging winds tore down power lines and trees in puerto rico. A Million People there are without power. And then another major hurricane, jose, is heading in the same direction as irma, right through the caribbean. In south florida, people are racing to get out of the hurricanes path. Flights out of town are hard to come by at Miami International. Leaving by car means being stuck in traffic jams and waiting in long lines to get gas. People are staying there, are putting up boarding their homes. Crews have already covered up the windows at president trumps maralago resort in palm beach. Heres another look at drivers stuck in those traffic jams and gas lines. This is on Floridas Atlantic coast, about 65 miles northeast of west palm beach. And the rush to leave apparently led to a shooting at Miami International airport. Police shot a man with a knife who somehow got on to the tarmac. The man was taken to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition. And all Major Airlines will suspend service in south florida tonight. People are complaining on social media about price gouging. In one place, 10,000 for three tickets from miami to new york. The approaching storm is also impacting 40,000 cruise line passengers. Their ships returned to shore early and dropped off passengers who then have to fly or drive home. And now heres a live look at Philadelphia International airport, where the travel problems in miami are having a direct impact on phl. A check with flight aware shows if there are a number of canceled, delayed, or diverted flights to and from miami today, only a handful of flights are scheduled. Well, the closing window for escaping florida has people scrambling, afraid of being trapped when the hurricane hits. With flight prices hiked up, some vacationers from our area cant afford to return home. A washington family tells us their flight was canceled and they only have a hotel room booked until saturday. So they have no place to stay when the storm hits florida. I dont know how to deal with Something Like this. Im in fear, like, i dont know where to go. Its like, i dont know what to do. We also spoke to one of the lucky ones. This man rate here, a young man named brandon flew to philadelphia from miami to stay with his parents, away from that panic in florida. Helping hands from our area are headed to florida. 130 soldiers from the new Jersey Army National guard loaded up equipment yesterday. Theyre being deployed today to southeast florida. And theyre bringing about 40 heavy duty highwheel trucks like you see here. The unit is also armed with Lessons Learned five years ago here at home during hurricane sandy. One thing we learned from sandy is to be prepared for the unexpected. That may be part of the reason why florida, specifically, came to new jersey skpand said, hey, had like your National Guard to help us. The guard unit expects to be away for at least two to three weeks, but that would depend on the severity of Hurricane Irma. Nbc 10 has a team of reporters in florida right now. Initial reports show a magnitude 8. 2 earthquake struck off the coast of mexico, but look at the damage it caused inland. The u. S. Tsunami waves reaching the shore are expected to be between 9 to 10 feet high. Today, friends and family will pay their last respects to Jenna Burleigh, the temple student who was murdered just last week. A funeral mass is scheduled for this evening in hatfield, montgomery county. Yesterday, members of her Hometown Community paid their respects at a viewing. The crowd was so large, police had to help control traffic. At temple university, where burleigh recently transferred, students, faculty, and the yaufrts president came together for an emotional vigil. From the heart of campus came heartfelt condolences. I just want to let the family know that were deeply saddened. I couldnt believe it, honestly. It didnt seem real, until it was. My heart goes out to the family. The burleigh family, wonderful people. The man accused of killing Jenna Burleigh has a new lawyer. The alleged accomplice in a bucks county killing spree says he had nothing to do with the murder. Sky force 10 captured this new video of sean kratz shortly after his Court Hearing yesterday. He admitted being there for the killings, but says his cousin, Cosmo Dinardo is the murerers. The body of the four victims were found on the dinardo family farm over the summer. Dinardo confessed to the killings in exchange for not getting the death penalty. The lawsuit over median parking on broad street in south philadelphia is over for now. A judge threw out that lawsuit yesterday. A group of neighbors called the fifth square filed the suit. It argued that median parking right along broad, not safe. The group tells nbc 10, theyre going to review their other legal options. Im first alert meteorologist, erika martin. Now to a Legal Development related to damage from hurricane harvey. First responders in texas have filed a lawsuit against a Chemical Company that has its u. S. Headquarters in our area, in king of prussia. This is one of the massive fires that happened at the arkema plant in crawford, texas, following harvey. The lawsuit claims that First Responders were not fully informed of the potential risks and suffered serious injuries. Theyre suing for at least 1 million. In a statement, arkema says, we reject any suggestion that we failed to warn of the danger from breathing the fires at our site or that we ever misled anyone. Lafayette colleges dorm expansion plans are taking a little bit of a hit. The Easton Planning Commission has denied the schools request for a building permit. In this case, because its only going to make water, eventually making landfall in florida, the concern is its going to maintain its strength and possibly make landfall as a category 5, although conditions right now are showing it will make landfall as a category 4. If the Herbert Hoover dike on lake okeechobee fails, that would put 40,000 people at risk for flooding. The dike holds back water from the massive lake, which is just northwest of miami. If irma makes landfall as category 5, it will only be the third hurricane in history to ever have done so, including wi, i think it was camille and andrew are the two that did make landfall as a category 5.
