They cried, they hugged and then they get the job done. Reporter 24yearold Alison Parker and adam ward were in the middle of z interview yesterday morning when a former reporter, Vester Flanagan, walked and opened fire. Parker and ward were killed. Vicki gardner was seriously wounded while her husband watched it all unfold on tv. I immediately tried to call her on her cell phone. There was no response. The next time i spoke to her was when she called me from the ambulance. Reporter the gunman videotaped the shootings himself and posted that video on facebook. Police say after the killings, Vester Flanagan faxed a 23page suicide note to abc news, outlining a series of grievances. Flanagan then killed himself after a high speed chase. The father of Alison Parker is feeling both grief and outrage. My grief which is still apparent and will be that way for awhile, its turned to anger and im relentless, and im not going to stop until something happens, because i dont want to see another alison tragedy like this again. Im just not going to do it. Reporter as a memorial grows outside wdbj tv in roanoke, television stations across the country are showing solidarity through social media. A sad and senseless crime thats hitting close to home. There is some positive news to report. The lone survivor of the shooting, vicki gardner, she is the head of the local chamber of commerce. Meanwhile, the photographer who was killed was engaged to a producer at that same roanoke tv station. Melissas Wedding Dress arrived in the mail on the same day her fiance was killed. She is from gibbstown, gloucester county. She began her career as an intern right here at nbc 10 news. Now to Tropical Storm erika. We learned the storm has already killed several people. Heres a satellite look out at the storm. Police in Eastern Caribbean country of domenica tell us at least four people have died in floods and mudslides. Erika could make landfall in the u. S. As a hurricane in the next week. Our nbc 10 hurricane expert, first alert meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz is here with the projections. How does it look . Tell you what we know to be happening right now. Erika is a Tropical Storm and a fairly weak and disorganized one, at that. It has a tremendous area of thunderstorms, you can see lots and lots of rain, but the center of it is on the left edge. This is a disorganized system. There is too much wind shear, too much wind blowing the tops of these clouds off to the east. Thats why it only has 45 mile an hour maximum winds moving west at 16. Now, the structure, this weakening, is affecting the path, too. Its affecting the track. Also, there it is, already being weakened by the wind shear and over here in the central caribbean, you can see the way these clouds are moving, thats a really strong upper level wind, even more hostile conditions ahead. Not only that, youve got the potential mountains of puerto rico and hispaniola to get the way. So its got a lot of things to go by in order to strengthen. The latest computer models, remember a lot of them were going out towards the bahamas yesterday. We are starting to see a little bit more indication farther to the left and the weaker the storm is, the greater chance it has of going to the left of this forecast track. For example, its way down south of puerto rico now, moving straight west so if it continues straight west, it moves out of this cone very quickly so the Hurricane Center may have to adjust this farther to the south, which would then put it over the mountainous areas of puerto rico and hispaniola and potentially cuba. There are a lot of questions going on here. We will try to pin some of it down with the rest of our sevenday in a few minutes. We are about to mark, by the way, the tenyear anniversary of a catastrophic hurricane. Katrina. Katrina has been called the worst Natural Disaster in u. S. History. From our south Jersey Bureau we want to tell you about a camden cleanup aimed at sweeping away prostitution and drug dealing in the area. Crews targeted blocks considered hot spots by police around south broadway, including newton avenue, mt. Vernon and chestnut streets. Front loaders, weed whackers took aim at overgrown lots. Crews demolished a nearby abandoned house police say was taken over by drug users. The area around an unused car wash was spruced t up, getting ready for a new owner. It now has 13 days to get the building up to code. The police led the cleanup together with the Mayors Office and department of public works. Before too long well have this albatross behind us demolished, razed and something productive on that. The chief tells us cleaning up the area isnt just about reducing crime. Its also about improving the health of the community. Well, another beautiful comfortable day around here, but our eyes focused on the tropics as erika continues to be a threat to florida eventually, not in the next couple of days, though. One more day of this great comfortable weather and then we start heating up. The 90s will be returning probably as early as sunday. We see the flags blowing out of the west. Its a dry direction and even though we have some clouds, theyre fair weather clouds. 80 degrees, northwest wind at 13 miles an hour and the humidity only 36 . Weve had a lot of nice comfortable days lately. 80 in philadelphia, 70s in most of the rest of the area, 67 in mt. Pocono right now. Its 80 or better in millville and Atlantic City international as well. Now, as we take a look at the beaches, its a land breeze so they have been into the 80s during the day today, 79 degrees in wildwood. These are some fair weather clouds in between the sunshine. More sun toward the south and east and lots of dry air to our west. It also includes up to green bay where the eagles are playing but there is some rain on the way and there could be some early during the day on saturday, maybe even into the beginning of the game. It will be on the cool side certainly compared to what were seeing around here. Its not terrible weather. It is green bay. Heres florida and there is erika. Very easy to find on a satellite picture but not so much where the center is. This is the track. Its moved straight to the west. Still moving west at 16 miles an hour. That is critical. The most important thing is going to be, is it going to go south of puerto rico and the Dominican Republic or is it going to go north . Makes a huge difference. So heres case one. To keep the storm weak, that it goes near or over the mountains of puerto rico, that would keep it weak, and then even higher mountains in the Dominican Republic and haiti that causes friction, rips the storm apart, then you get upper level winds, the wind shear we have been talking about. That helps to rip it apart and it wont allow the storm to organize. If it doesnt organize, it cant strengthen. So this is one possibility, that it stays weak for the next three days at least. Now, if it manages to go north of puerto rico and doesnt encounter the mountains, it will hit less wind shear, it goes over an area of 85 to 90 degree water temperatures which is super warm and that would allow the storm to strengthen, especially when it gets to the bahamas. The computer models still on the northern side but theyre not going along with the way its moving right now. So some of these western tracks could be potentially a little more accurate. Well see what happens at 5 00. The new update from the Hurricane Center. Clear and comfortable tonight, 63 for a low in philadelphia, 55 north and west. Tomorrow, sunny with low humidity, temperatures in the low to mid 80s and then the sevenday forecast, its a little bit warmer on saturday, still relatively low humidity. Pretty nice day. Its getting hotter on sunday, little bit more humid. Then its a hot, humid day on monday and another one tuesday, wednesday. We could see a heat wave coming here over this next week. Erika is a potential threat to florida. Its going to take awhile, its not going to be developing quickly. We have one more day of this beautiful comfortable weather before it starts heating up. The 90s are going to be returning to our area. Another great night for baseball. 80 degrees right now. The wind 13 miles an hour. Its close to the same temperature as it was yesterday and the humidity is just as low, too. Its in the mid 70s to near 80 degrees right now except for that 67 degrees in mt. Pocono which is pretty chilly for this time of the day, at this time of the year. Some of those fair weather clouds coming down from the northwest, little moisture picked up from the great lakes but overall its dry. Theres nothing on the radar there. And we have a few showers headed in the general direction of green bay. Now, for us, we have that northwest wind keeping things dry and watch what happens. We go through the day friday, now we have a northeast wind. Thats still dry. Still comfortable. As we go through the afternoon. Now were starting to see just a little bit so by saturday, the wind is starting to come out of the south and then the southwest so its getting hotter, getting a little bit more humid. So that looks like its going to set up for yet another nice weekend at the shore. Temperatures pretty nice, bit of a sea breeze developing each day. The water temperature, 76 degrees. Now, its a different story out near puerto rico, where theres a Tropical Storm headed there. Lots of thunderstorms around here and devastating flooding in parts of the caribbean islands. But the track so far has been pretty much straight to the west. Now the latest advisory from the Hurricane Center just out, now calling it westnorthwest at 15. So making a slight turn. But the critical thing is, is it going to go south of puerto rico or not . Because theres plenty of this wind shear, the more orange and red the colors are, higher level winds blow off the tops of the storm. Just unfavorable conditions for hurricanes to form. There we are tomorrow, and the wind shears worse tomorrow than today. So its not going to strengthen tomorrow. May not even strengthen early on saturday. But now if it makes it to the bahamas, then youre talking because the shear goes, the water is warm, no mountains in the bahamas so there would be a great chance of intensification if it survives up to that point. Clear and comfortable tonight, 63 for a low in philadelphia, 55 north and west. During the day tomorrow, sunny with low humidity, highs in the low to mid 80s. Another really nice day. Then saturday is pretty nice, too. Humidity still not too bad. Getting a little warmer, though. Hotter on sunday and the humidity really starts to increase on monday. Thats our first decent chance of any kind of thunderstorms. It looks like a really nice weekend and a really hot week next week. We are talking about puppy play dates with a twist.
